The Cabs (stylized in lowercase as "the cabs") are a Japanese rock band. Not to be confused with American rock group of similar singular name "The Cab", The Cabs are an energetic and erratic yet dissonantly melodic group. Their style draws influence from emo, indie, jazz, mathrock, prog, punk, and a variety of other genres. It's quite addicting and its unique musical complexity has great replay value; their second mini-album Recur Breath is my most played EP-length release ever, and I've only had it for a few months. The group consists of just three despite the crazy bounce-off-the-walls sound- Kunimitsu Takahashi (vocals/guitar), Yoshikatsu Shotou (bass/vocals), and Itta Nakamura (drums).

I can't quite express just how enjoyable these guys are. Their chemistry is fantastic. They certainly take what they do seriously and the complexity of their tracks is pure ear-candy for musicians and music critics. Those who tend to lean towards mainstream and simple acts should even enjoy this; the presence of vocals (albeit in their native Japanese) helps add melody that's normally absent from this normally instrumentally-led mathrock music scene. The Cabs don't have a large fanbase yet, and I'm hoping to change that, cause these guys can offer a lot and I have a feeling at least some of you guys would enjoy it. After releasing two short mini-albums in 2011, their debut full-length album came out today.

The only two listed there I've heard are toe and te', both of which I liked but didn't really fall in love with. I'm thinking of giving toe's For Long Tomorrow another listen soon to see if it clicks more.

Damn shame. They were probably my favorite Japanese band. Amazing chemistry, superb songwriting.

I used to listen to the cabs so much during my math rock phase. they're so good, easily top 5 math rock bands.
