Our Earth, Our Home Needs Our Help. (9)

Hello Dollar Members
I am a fifteen year old high school student. For many years I have been learning about wild life and how important our ecosystem is. I went a middle school that taught me how important it is to keep the animals plants and the earth healthy. We were taught many things on how to protect our earth in the small ways we can and were able to have the opportunity to research endangered and extinct species and with this we were able to learn a little on how they were brought to their extinction.

Our home is dying and we all can see that, we all know that if something is not done. The first step on how to help our Earth is education. Education on the very basics, recycling and the importance of doing so correctly.

I want to find a way to start an educational system in the school district where schools have at least one project a year on the importance of protecting our earth. Starting with the fundamentals in elementary school working up to more complected lessons in middle school and into high school.

I can't do this alone I would appreciate help from whoever here I can get help from.
Articles on the danger of plastic and how its affecting our oceans would be appreciated. Any other types of help would be wonderful as well.

I'm pretty close to your age, and I'll try my best in whatever small way I can to help the environment! I'll start picking up trash in my town's parks, as well. Let's all pitcch in and save the planet together~!

Though I don't know if your school board has this or if you're already doing this, my school board has this student leadership meeting where students from different schools in the area hold a meeting once a month to decide on new policies, projects, or events. (Ask your guidance/principal for more details.)

Through this, my school has actually banned the selling of water bottles and only sell diet drinks.

Oh, and if you need a project idea, you can contact endangered animal or environmental charities (like WWF) and try to see if you have a partnership with them or something. I don't know which ones specifically but I do know that some campaigns will send you resource money if you propose an idea to help with their cause.

There are also little things that could help like planting milkweeds in the yard for the endangered monarchs (you can get the seeds for free with a quick Google search).

Anyway, best of luck, I hope I was of assistance.

Hello! I just wanted to say that I'm so glad that someone cares.

Anyway, here is something you all can do to help out... be what I like to call a "Polar Bear Pal". It sounds cheesy, but it works. Simply turn off your car engine (or get your parents to turn it off if you're not driving) if you are sitting idle for more than 30 seconds, excluding stoplights. Reducing carbon emissions is always a good thing to be doing. Best of luck!

The major greenhouse gases are water vapour, which causes about 36–70% of the greenhouse effect; carbon dioxide (CO2), which causes 9–26%; methane (CH4), which causes 4–9%; and ozone (O3), which causes 3–7%.
