Ecosia is a Germany-based online search engine that generously donates 80 percent of profits to tree-planting conservation organizations worldwide. Their search engine is powered by Bing, along with Ecosia's own search algorithms. So far, the site has led to the planting of more than 21 million trees.
It's 100% free and helps the environment.
Ecosia funds the planting of a new tree roughly every second. The personal counter in the top right corner represents the number of searches you have performed with Ecosia. It takes roughly 45 searches to plant a tree.
It may seem like alot of searches, but when you spend alot of time searching the web. Might as well.
Is Ecosia Legit? In short, yes. Ecosia.org is a certified B Corporation, which means that they are a for-profit company that is certified by the nonprofit B Lab by meeting "rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
"We do not, and never will, share or sell any data we collect ourselves with any third party. Also, no third party that is not directly involved in answering your search request will ever have access to your search data. ... We send all data collected from Ecosia services over an SSL-secured connection."
