I know that there's about a hundred threads that all say this. If all this one does is get saged then that's fine with me.

To skip the soap-box rant find this: (|/-\|)

We are the Dollars.

We're a bunch of interest crawling outcasts. That's what we are, and that's what the people we emulate started as in Durarara.

So what's our difference, we're all satisfied with that. To some degree, everyone on this site is here because all we did was googled "Durarara Dollars" for the lols and found ourselves here.

What is the same, though? We're people with branching stories, sometimes overlapping without even knowing how. We all want to be able to improve the quality of life for our corner of really. We're all good people. There are things we can do to help people. Most importantly, if asked, we would say we're part of the Dollars.

Let's be the Dollars.

We're reading the manga, and watching the anime Durarara, and some of us are doing what they do. There's always something more we can do though. We all know that, so let's do it.

(|/-\|)

Post what you've done, add to the thread what you want to do. Here's a list of what I know everyone who can read this can do:

-Leave money for someone

-Smile at a homeless person

-Donate anything to none-government charities

-Clean up your neighborhood

-Clean up someone else's neighborhood

-Give a homeless person a place to stay

-Give a hitch-hiker a ride

-Pay someone's bus fare

-Give out cigarettes

-Spread goodness in conversation

-Listen to an old person talk

-Fine each other IRL

I know some of these seem crazy.
"Invite a stranger into your personal space!?!? Are you completely insane???"

I've been homeless. I know how dehumanizing it feels. I felt extremely grateful to ever person who helped me, even in the smallest action.

There are still days I wish that I could find everyone who helped me, and give them anything they want. Instead I've been trying to pay their kindness forward.

If we spread our good intentions towards making the world better, it can, will, and shall change. It'll probably just take a while.

>>2, thank you for the appreciation, but I'd prefer to keep to the things on topic for this section. I'm going to make a thread about this for more personal thoughts on that section.

>give out cigarettes
Seriously? You want to kill people?
What a great mission!
Shall we also give out alcohol and drugs?

Yesterday I was on my way home from work, and I met a lady at the bus stop. When she went to get on the bus the driver told her that her pass had already expired. She started crying because if she couldn't make it back to the shelter she would have to sleep outside. The driver didn't care, he said that she should have stayed close to the shelter if she was so desperate to sleep there.

Three people went up to the driver with money in hand. The lady trying to get on hugged all of us, and started talking about her life. She was the mother of 4, but none of her children lived in Colorado. They had offered her a place to stay, but she didn't want to burden her family. She said that if she couldn't keep living on her own will, she didn't see the point of living at all.

I thought she was one of the strongest people I'd ever met. I'm grateful to have been able to talk with her.

>>6 chronos has a valid point though .-.
You're wasting your money on giving out things like cigarettes that give people LUNG CANCER, you're basically helping them kill themselves.

Don't encourage smoking .-.

Today someone on the street was trying to get a dollar for something to eat. As I was walking up a couple passed him and yelled that he should get a job. I gave him $10 and he said that was the nicest thing someone had done for him in years.

He said he was only on the street because of his student loans. He had wanted to be a lawyer, but without a stable address no firm would hire him.

A few months ago I gave a homeless man $5 and he looked at me with complete shock and overflowing happiness. When I looked into his worn hat all I saw were silver coins (smallest coins in Australia, 50 20 10 and 5) and seriously you'd think $5 will make no difference but for this man it really did. I guess what I'm trying to say is share even just $5 for a homeless person because it is but a small loss for you yet can bring so much happiness for another.

I feel like the soapbox rant sums up all of the "let's do something" threads better than they even do! As for your ideas, I couldn't agree more... though, I feel like some caution should be exhibetted with some of these. My father once experienced a homeless man asking for money to buy food, so he bought him a plate of food, and the man three it in the garbage! He just wanted money for alcohol... that's why I've never been a fan of giving money to the homeless... but I would love to help them if I could. I smile to every human being I make eyecontact with! XD I also open the door for people every chance I get. I'm only 16 so what I can do is VERY limited...

We should all get together at some point. I think the best use of our numbers (other than the small things that we already do by ourselves) would be for protests, or large scale volunteering. We could get people to sign up for volunteering through a larger organization like the ASPCA or the Salvation Army or something like that. I know if we register as a group and go that we could all work in these places together, and then really feel like we are doing something.
