It is my goal with this thread to promote a more coherent and authentic Dollars experience for our community. What I will express here may be unpopular with several members who I suspect will feel somewhat targeted by my statements. However, I believe that the methods of several members thus far have been detrimental to the community I originally joined several years ago. It is my hope that I may persuade members to reduce activity on services such as discord which I see as one of the larger detriments.

Here is my opinion:

Most members have found this site while searching for a Dollars group to emulate the Dollars of Durarara. I myself certainly did and I became very interested in engaging further with the group upon finding my way here. People generally want that same community from the show. Unfortunately we will always be somewhat different as we are a worldwide community and not more localized as in the series. This however has not stopped us from adopting the values of the fictional Dollars or creating an authentic looking site to communicate with one another.

It is those values and that authentic experience that make us the real Dollars.

The purpose I found completing missions out in my neighbourhood and posting to a realistic Dollars bulletin board is what hooked me into membership. It still gives me a nostalgic feeling every time I see the login screen and enter our password that is the same as it was 4 years ago. At the time there were far fewer Dollars to interact with and as life circumstances began taking up more free time I fell off from this community. When I found time to catch up on the newest seasons all the enthusiasm for the Dollars began to bubble up again and so here I am.

We are different now, which isn’t all bad of course. We seem to have more members and this site is the same as ever with its varying content. Though now there are some clear splinter groups who seems to favor a much less authentic Dollars experience. In particular, I would like to draw focus to those who have created and now curate the Dollars discord. Introducing a hierarchy, more rules, and promoting a service which is barely a shadow of what the Dollars community is like from the series. The first two issues being recognised as going against the values of the Dollars even by those running the splinter group. I can understand the desire for an instant messaging service to communicate with fellow members but alternatives such as drrr.com offer a much more authentic Dollars messaging service. It is this authenticity along with our values that makes us the Dollars.

Without our values and an authentic experience, there is little making us different from some other random online community.

It is my hope that those who value their role as a Dollar more highly or even those who just desire a more authentic community can understand what I am saying to have merit. I would urge you to put your energy into this site and more original chat sites like drrr.com over that discord group or other splinters like it. I feel our efforts will be better spent here rather than spreading our community thin amongst these alternate groups. If I was to flatter those groups, I would say they more closely resemble good-hearted color gangs than Dollars.

I am interested hearing in the opinions of all members, though my mission is for those who share my opinions. I urge you all once more to be active here and not divide us into unauthentic knockoffs.

I completely agree with this! I don't think those guys are bad or anything but it's just so not the dollars.

Nobody is forcing others to use Discord. Just like you said, there are several chat platforms to choose from.

You're right, the people running it probably have good intentions too. However that's not what I see the Dollars. The more communities we divide into, the weaker we make ourselves. Especially when those communities don't stick to Dollars values. That discord group is nothing like the Dollars and neither are most of those splinters. I'm encouraging a return to authenticity and a coherent Dollars.

Reading this really makes me wonder, have you spent any real time on the discord group? Not to mention, being a world-wide group, members living in Australia, Europe, Asia, USA etc. it won't exactly work trying to be the Dollars from the anime. It was different in Drrr because they were localised, everyone knew who to avoid, the best meetup places, what everyone else was talking about or who they were talking about. It is incredibly hard to replicate that when you're world-wide. We would never get anywhere without these different people. We aren't even really a hierarchical, more of a Flat organisational system. Meaning, that we all work in teams and the leader works so closely by us, that there isn't even really a leader. Before I joined the discord server, I didn't really feel like I was officially part of the Dollars and this place seemed a bit like a waste of time, when I realised just how seriously people took it and how well organised it is, I started to take it more seriously and appreciate it more.

All these words are hurting my head, but after reading this a few times through I realized that I could careless and reading this thread was a waste of my time....don't get me wrong, it's great you are expressing opinions...(I already know I'm gonna be roasted for this)

However I am of the opinion that this site and drrr.com still give the best Dollars experience available. That Discord community is a good community for those who enjoy what they promote. Those looking for a more authentic Dollars experience would be better off spending their time here. We don't need leaders and we don't need further division of our community.
