GLSEN's Day of Silence is a student-led national event organized in thousands of schools, bringing awareness to the silencing effects of anti-LGBTQ name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBTQ behavior by illustrating the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBTQ students and those perceived to be LGBTQ.

Alright y'all, I didn't see any posts on this so I decided to make one about this, as it is this Friday. If you really want to show support for the LGBT+ community, you can participate and tape your mouth or whatever to remind you to be silent, and wear something explaining why you are doing it. If in your area you might get in trouble for doing something like this, you don't have to. My school's GSA is doing it, so I decided to share.

I'm going to do this, and not even talk online. (This will be hard, but worth it to support our LGBT+ community)

My GSA is taking this so seriously. Holy crap, there's even a gay cart full of shit we're passing out. My teacher had a half of her room covered in leis and rainbow flags. Maybe a bit far on her part? But just makes for more fun and support, right? Jijijiji~! Hype for tomorrow, le~!

Thank you for this post! I learned about this when I was in high school and participated every year. Then, once I graduated, it wasn't a thing at my university and it got difficult for me to keep track of it. But I think it's a great message and can be used to spread awareness and let people from the community know that they are supported, even outside of a school setting. So thank you for spreading the word! Is this every year on april 21, or how is the date decided? Do you know?

>>12 Yes, it is every year. Next year you can definitely do it, just email your teachers a few days in advance so that they know what is going on. If you have a GSA/Alliance and they help with the event, you probably won't have to. Duct tape helps with the silence bit but it feels really unpleasant xD
