In light of all the hate and violence spreading across America right now, a movement has started for those who are open, accepting, and willing to help to wear a safety pin when going out.

These are intended to symbolize you as a safe place for minorities and foreigners who need assistance, as asking help from the wrong people for even something as basic as directions can put them in danger during these tough times.

The safety pins should be large and worn in an easily visible location. Some crafts shows are making fashionable ones with beads and decorations, but make sure it's still recognizable as a safety pin after you've decorated it if you do so.

Try not to wear them if you're going out alone, especially as a minor or to a less populated area, as the movement has trended and attracted some negative attention.

Regarding the negative attention: Some folks are misunderstanding it as being something political due to the news slant coverage, but in the end, all sides of the arguments are free to wear it if they're against the violence and willing to help.
