So... This has been festering in my head for a while, and theDollars seems like theperfect place to talk about it.
So, what i'd like to propose is to try explaining homosexuality, bisexuality, pansexuality, and the various other sexual orientations and identities to the elder generations. 40% of our homeless youth are members of the LGBT community who were shunned by their families simply for being "different". We can lower this number if we could just explain to these people that being gay or transgendered isn't wrong. I was nearly kicked out of my home at 15 just for being gay. That shouldn't happen, and we have the power to stop it.
So, if you can try to enlighten someone from the elder generations and share your story here.

As part of the LGBT community I fully support this idea, I think it is wonderful. My only contribution to what was said is, if you do this, be very respectful when informing the older generation and if things get frustrating remain calm. And remember not everyone will come around but as long as you try that's what matters!

Of course! I'd HOPE that this goes without saying, but it isn't unreal for someone to get insulted. Not everyone is as open minded as we'd all hope, so be patient in explaining.
