I've been playing around with an idea I had and I want to see what you guys think. The Dollars are a large group with members from all over the world, right? But most of us, myself included, don't know much about other cultures or languages. So I thought it would be interesting if we had a weekly thread where we explore a certain language and the culture that goes with it, anything from their music to their customs etc. We could use a site like Memrise to make a dollars group and learn a few words. Does this sound like something anyone would want to do?

Sa-wat-dee (Hello) everybody. As you might have already guessed, Thailand was randomly picked for the first week. Thailand is a country in south eastern Asia with an interesting language(it all kind of looks like scribbles) and a diverse culture. Throughout the week I'll try to post interesting Thai related things and I encourage everyone to do the same. I'll also post some Thai vocab and the Thai alphabet course(if you're feeling adventurous) to the Memrise Dollar's group. I hope everyone has a Swasdi-pi-him (Happy New Year)

this idea sounds fun because the one big problem about the dollars right now is that we're worldwide which technically isn't really a bad thing
its just that we're so spread out we're not really unified like in the 1st Drrr!! most of the people live in Ikebukuro or live within 30 mins of it as far as i know there were no dollars that were from abroad

this could be a lot of fun i like the idea of learning about new cultures and languages.

I've been scrolling through missions for quite awhile,looking for old but relevant things. I'm not 100% sure if this even belongs here, but in my mind its a hidden gem. So bumpity-bumpbump it is!
It's pretty helpful to understand multiple languages, so you can understand people who aren't understood by the majority of people around them-if that makes any sense. It can come in handy in many situations, and the website this post has become focused on is pretty quick and easy to use. So no hassle, maybe loose a little free time, but a multitude of languages makes some situations a lot easier!

Wow! Really sad this thread didn't get any attention when it was initially posted! This is a wonderful idea especially as someone who has grown up in a multicultural environment. I've personally lived in or been around American, Japanese, Lao, Cambodian, Russian, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Serbian, Mexican, Irish, and Native American homes and cultures since I was young due to moving around a lot in my earlier years. I speak some Japanese and Spanish (not nearly fluent in either but I'm still learning) and I'm mostly fluent in English.
