I am honestly surprised that this issue has been rarely addressed on the Dollars BBS. This is an issue that's still happening today and this is a very serious issue that will continue to persist unless we, along with many other organizations, take steps to put an end to this.

***What is cyber bullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

***Why is Cyber Bullying is a serious issue?

- Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. It can happen any time of the day or night.

- Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source.

- Deleting inappropriate or harassing messages, texts, and pictures is extremely difficult after they have been posted or sent.

***Why am I addressing this?

http://www.puresight.com/Real-Life-Stories/real-life-stories.html

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are more people around the world, specifically in first-world countries, who are being cyber bullied as I type this.

***Why should you care?

Good question. Why should you care? It may have nothing to do with you... That's where you're wrong. Nobody is immune to cyber bullying. It doesn't matter which end you're on, YOU AND I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN CYBER BULLYING AT ONE POINT IN OUR LIVES. You cannot deny that simple fact. I know I have, and I couldn't feel more ashamed about it. So the sooner that you and I admit that we screwed up, we can get down to business.

***How can we help?

1. Always consider these before you say or post anything:
- Would I want someone saying this to me?
- What would my parents think if I said this to them?
- Don't even try to make the excuse that you're just joking.
- If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all.
- Don't be rude.

2. If you see someone being attacked online, don't respond to the attackers. Instead, speak to the person being attacked directly and ask what happened. You will achieve better results than responding to the attackers.

3. Ask the person being attacked their side of the story. It always helps to know what's going on and how to solve it. It could have been a misunderstanding or an honest mistake that they acknowledge was not smart at the time and wish to fix or move on from it.

4. If someone threatens or wishes death upon the person, stalks the person, take a screenshot of that comment/post and hold it for evidence.

5. Give a warning to the people that apply to #4, saying you will report them if they continue their despicable behavior. This usually deters them.

6. Report if the people in #4 don't listen in #5.

7. Be polite. Being rude does not help in any situation. Civilized and polite is the way to go.

***Thank you

Thank you for reading this. I have faith that this mission will be taken seriously because this is a very serious issue. It is also not impossible to resolve. My suggestions are what I think is the best way to resolve the situation in a peaceful manner. So if you have any suggestions that you could add on (that don't involve violence or more cyber bullying) then please feel free to do so.

This is not an impossible mission, my fellow Dollars.

You Know You Can't Really Stop This Right?

Yes, it is nearly impossible to stop this, but I'll join this cause. I'll think small here, I don't expect to stop cyberbullying from existing, however, if I can make at least one person to feel better, I'll be able to sleep with more ease.

>>8 Don't even bother replying if you're going to be cynical about this. This is a very serious issue, one that I take personally. So if you have nothing but cynicism for it, leave.

This is a hysterical topic which is easily resolved by reporting and removing yourself from such website. If not, then you can take it as learning to accept other people's opinions.

I hope this hasn't offended you, OP. Though would you agree that bullying in flesh is more severe?

>>10 What in my reply made it sound like I'm not accepting his opinion? Where did it say that I disagree with his opinion of: This is impossible. I said that if >>8 is not going to be helpful than he can go somewhere else and not waste his time on this thread because he clearly does not want to participate in this mission.

And believe me, if I was offended I would not be civilized. Anyways, bullying in person has its own severity and I find that despicable as well. But neither is more severe than the other because they are the same thing. The only difference is that Cyber Bullying can happen every day at any moment whereas physical bullying happens whenever the "bully" feels it's safe to do the bullying without anyone seeing what's happening. So in other words, Physical Bullying is not more severe, neither less severe than cyber bullying.

>>11 I didn't mean for it to sound like I was talking about >>8.
OTT: What do you mean by being civilized? Being offended by other people's opinions happens with civilized people. Unless you mean when you're offended, people will know. Lol.

>>12 Ah, can you clarify what you meant then?

And yes, if I'm offended people will know lol
