The Dollars formally joined the Plura Processing Initiative in 2011 by joining SuperDonate. Since then, we have become the third highest contributor on SuperDonate's servers.

So I've been monitoring the stats lately for our team. I'm not sure what's going on but SuperDonate's servers haven't had a lot of activity lately. So our total units have been in the hundreds lately, as opposed to the tens of thousands. I have emailed them asking about the issue; hopefully they get back to me in a matter of days. Nonetheless, I still urge people to at least join the team. That way, when activity resumes we can really start racking up the work units.

So, does it work like FreeRice?

Their server then credits your account and team, in the form the "Work Units." It then checks how many work units you've completed, converts that to a proportion of currency, and then donates said currency to the charity listed on your account. Being a part of the team simply combines the work unit counts of all individuals who are a part of it for reference.

Do you know where the money comes from? What group or company is providing the donated money?

The money is provided by the entities which contract with SuperDonate. You're doing the calculations for those entities; the money is just going to SuperDonate, who in turn provides it to the charities listed.

BOINC works in a similar way, only any revenue generated is kept within UC Berkeley.
