It's time to save the woods and beach, because I'm goddamn tired of this shit. By the way, this mission only applies to those who are 14+ and live near one or both of these items.
DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE AGE LIMIT. This requires major patience and maturity to do.

Here's how this mission works.

Amongst your friends or classmates (they don't have to be Dollars), I ask that you start a small group dedicated to taking care of the woods/beaches that are near you. If you would like, I can ask the group I work for if your group can be an official branch of ours. We work to protect the woods and sponsor events. We create and support charities that give money to the less fortunate towns that can't afford their sports teams' uniforms. We plant hundreds of trees every year with the hope that one or two would grow to be a strong tree that helps fill the woods after all of the things that have been chopped down from development.

How would these groups work?
Make "system" of sorts.

Representative: Represents your group during official conversations. They are in charge of speaking publically and sending letters to the governor and such when it is necessary to get your point around.
Organizers: They come up with the ideas for events to sponsor and are in charge of making a schedule with your group. They are often the "treasurer" of the group in that they take care of any money you may have to use.
Cleaners: This can overlap with other positions. These are the people that actually clean these places up.
Vocalists: These people invite other members and spread the word of the moment. They also invite other kids to join you for activiites in the woods or on the beach to try and show them that it is a positive environment that shouldn't be destroyed.

Add more as you see fit.
What do I mean by events?
Woods: Maybe you can sponsor a capture the flag or manhunt game? Have a "haunted woods". Why not do a live action fantasy roleplay?
Beach: Volley ball competition? Bon fire (clean up afterwards)? Movie on the beach?
Both: Why not offer to sponsor a birthday party? Collect money through drives (after your are a set group with proper identification and proof that you are non-profit!) and use it to set things up and throw some awesome birthday bash.

For all of these events, remember to contact the owner of the land and get all permits you need. You will need an 18+ (sometimes 21+) representative who will be there to sign the permits and be there through the event. There are a lot of things that have to be organized and worked out, but it's a lot of fun to do.

To those of you dedicated dollars who are interested, good luck. Please spread this around the Countries thread and find people in your area if you can't find anyone in real life to join you.

DO NOT PUT THE DOLLARS' NAME ON THIS, GODDAMNIT. Make your own group name. The group I participate in is "The Gatherer Institute" and this is only a small portion of the types of things they do to help the community. Make a group like that. I will love you.

sorry but it just seems to hard, I love the woods that are around where I live but I cant get anyone to join me plus you cant have an event using the woods if you don't own it. there are too many cons for it to be worth our while.

What do you mean, you can't have an event if you don't own it? Contact the owners (which is often the township, which is easy to contact). Just say, "Hey, I want to host an event in XX acre number of your land where the woods are. Can I get an email back with some permission to do it, if it's okay? We'll clean up and get all the permits we need."

And add an explanation of the event, who is running it, and what permits you need to reassure them along with whatever else you see fit. Just use proper English when doing so.

Guys, once I get some time on the school computers, I'll get some more information, links, and checklists together in a document I'm working on. I'll put it up on Google Docs for ease of viewing. There's a lot more information you need to know if you're not already an active political part of your beaches/woods that you're saving. Especially woods. Saw a coyote the other day :/ Found a deer leg the day after. WONDER WHAT HAPPENED.

A lot of stuff about poisonous things, predators, and the insects that are living there matter, as well as a lot of other things. I think it would be too obnoxiously long to post all the info here :/ I do suggest going to your local library and reading up on the area, though. You also need to make sure you get an OK for this mission from the local authorities, fire fighters, land owners, mayor (if the mayor refuses to promote your project in a positive light, go to the governor), etc.

And make sure you have at least one to three adults in the group. If you don't, there's little that you can do legally :/

Anyway, have you spoken with the owner of the plot of land you want to work with? If it's just the township, you're job will be easy. Just go to them and present your ideas with your group. Say that you're interested in helping clean up the area and would like permission to also host some events. Promise to keep them posted on what's happening, etc. etc. It is possible that they may want rent for the land if you're going to do an event, in which case you're going to have to do some work collecting money, which you usually need a permit for. Once you get it, you can... ugh. I forgot the word for it, but you stand outside stores and collect money? You're program is for the community, so you can collect money for it as long as it's nonprofit amongst your group. Be sure to ask the owners of the store first and show them your permits.

It's a giant circle with a lot you have to do to get everything started before you can do anything more than clean things up. Remember to take pictures. Email them to me if you want (masterfirerose@aol.com).

You know what? I feel bad for you since this is a really good mission, so I am going to bump it. Additionally, I am going to lend my support. I live between the states of California and Oregon at the moment, so I'm able to travel through Lassen National Forest, Plumas National Forest, Modoc National Forest, and the southern part of Winema National Forest, all of which are owned and maintained by the USDA and BLM. I've been looking into working with them since fire season will be starting up in May.

Also, as an engineer I've been playing around with the idea of storing plant waste for future conversion as a fuel source. Covanta Energy has a cellulose plant in production in Westwood, CA. It's been running at partial production for a while, and should reach full production within the next nine to eighteen months. I want to see if my university (which has a renewable energy division) is working on similar projects, and if, when I have time, I can get involved.

The way it would work is a microorganism would convert the waste material into sugars, which could be converted into combustible carbon-compounds. However, these carbon compounds would have fewer resulting carbon emissions than traditional petroleum products, thus making them better for the environment.

One thing you could do is find a hunting organization near you. Most hunters actively take part in preserving the natural ecosystems in their area, and make sure that the wild-life are well regulated. And every hunter I can think of in my area ostracizes people who misuse the land (And I live in Tennessee, where 'everyone' hunts). (Poachers are a different story, but there aren't any poachers in my area).

We have a tradition of making a huge hut in the woods (using only already dead trees; we don't approve of killing trees for such projects), and this is a picture of our most prominent one. Unfortunately, the kids down here enjoyed pretending that it was some giant bonfire. Last year's hut is the only one that didn't get destroyed, but it's also unfinished.

We invited the community to come help build the large hut you see here, and we also hosted various affairs inside of it. This one could house hundreds of people. Our new one is quite a bit smaller with only being able to seat about fifty people; seeing as we're the next generation now taking charge, we didn't want to get over our heads. Nonetheless, I hope this is a bit of inspiration for any of you guys who are working on this Mission.

Cleaning up litter does more than you think, too. The pollution can cause a lot of problems. In the town next to me, they changed up the bridge system between the parkway and the woods. Between that and the litter, the water in the creak running through it became stagnant. Stagnant water can lead to many diseases, which seemed to be the cause of killing the turtle population in the area. It's really important to make sure the woods are clear of such garbage.
