I encourage all high school and college students to keep a first aid kid on them at all times; in your cars, in your drawers, in your backpacks. The first aid kit should contain assorted band-aids, some form of antibiotic ointment, gauze pads, medical tape, cleaning pads, and pain medication (one packet of ibuprofen, one of acetaminophen/tylenol).

Tonight, I had the pleasure of treating not one, but two individuals with injured fingers. One was really bad and without the first aid kit she would have lost a lot more blood and done a lot more damage. After all, the biggest enemy of injury is time. The faster you get it patched up, the better the odds of preventing complications are.

Sounds like a good idea. I keep bandaids with me anyway. Just because the dispenser was cute, haha.

I might be the one who ends up using it the most, though. I'm trying to recover from a self-harm addiction, so I'm always having to tend to open sores. My friends don't know what to do with me. ^^'

That said, when it comes to treating wounds, even if it's a small one and doesn't look infected at all, hydrogen peroxide is something you should always apply to your wounds. (I am aware of how much of a hypocrite that makes me sound like. But it is what you're supposed to do.) Then the antibiotic ointment and bandage.

If something happens and it's too big a wound for your first-aid knowledge, apply pressure to the wound and tell a specific person to call for help, be it an ambulance or campus security.

that reminds me.. i need to stock up on my tissues and wet wipes for school. :D I also need to buy sanitizers soon :3

I think this is a great mission. Especially since colds and the flu spread through my school like a wildfire.

And a situation with Hepatitus A broke out at my campus. The e-mail that was sent out about it conveniently forgot to tell us how the person became infected and exactly who it is with Hep A, so for all I know I've already come into contact with the damn thing.

Also, for those who like to camp or go outdoors, in addition to a first aid kit, always carry hot packs/hand warmers, water resistant matches, a foil blanket (they're packed really small but only one time use generally), and a compass.
