I know this is a stretch, but on December 1, 2011 I would like every Dollar that can to turn off every electronic device they can for 2 hours, as well as not using any gas-powered vehicles or equipment and not running any water. If we use no resources at all for just 2 hours, we would save a LOT of energy and water.

Agreed, the UK for example. has not got enough time to sort our its resource usage before, we run out altogether. we are talking. trying to achieve resource effiancy that will take about 30 years to achieve. but we only have about 20 years on which to do it in. its the same in other countries.
As the dollars, and citizens of this planet, it is kind of your duty, if not your privilage to switch everything off for 2 hours and help same the world from...well...US!
its not too hard, go for a walk or something during these 2 hours. and its like, 0% effort for 100% benefit.

Lol, no. Ever heard of Earth Hour? That event has millions of people participating in it each year, but statistics say it doesn't really affect a damn thing.
If you really want to save resources, donate money to green corporations devoted to researching and developing environmental-friendly techniques and machines, not this crap.

^^ Already do that as well. A lot of people I've met simply dismiss earth hour. Hell, I used to. Either way, this isn't exactly a bad Idea. It won't do any harm, and every participant helps. Honestly, I'm just trying out a new idea that can help. It's not like this is the only idea. We can all do more than this, and there are other threads here for other methods to take care of our environment.

I hate to continue to rain on everybody's parade, but how much energy and water do you think you'll actually be saving?
For example, when the Deepwater Horizon incident happened, I looked some stuff up.
America alone uses almost 20 million barrels of oil a DAY.
The Deepwater Horizon incident leaked 50 thousand barrels of oil a day.
I.E. Not all that much was really lost.
If two hundred or so people on here shut off their electricity, water, etc. for two hours, we'd, AT MOST, save as much electricity and water that, you know, 200 people or so use in two hours.
Not much, when you consider there's 7 odd billion people on the planet and 300 million people in the US alone.

That being said, it would be better if we all simply tried to save energy throughout our lives, as opposed to on just one day. Turn off unnecessary lights during the day, keep the AC/Heater on low, etc. etc.

As I believe I previously mentioned (somewhere), this is just a starting thing. As more people are willing to try it, the more they can try to save. Personally, I take 5 min showers, post most of this by a phone that's fairly energy efficient, rather than by a desktop computer, etc. Everyone has their own way to get accustomed to saving resources, but this is to help encourage people to start thinking about applying it to every day lives. Thanks for the constructive criticism, but I figured that on a large scale, I'd start out small. Hopefully, the concept will grow over time.

Also don't forget to unplug unnecessary electronics; game systems, phone charges, etc, as well. Even if they are turned off, if its plugged in then there is still some small percentage of power circulating through it being used unintentionally.
