Alright, so it's not exactly a mystery that the people who use the Dollars BBS mainly range from ages 13 to 21. Many are in their first two years of high school. Many others are in their last two years of high school. And then there are those of us who have graduated and are entering college or the workforce.

While I am leaving my alma mater behind this year to partake in university study, I still have many ties to people who still go to high school. Some of my closest friends are actually freshmen this year. What I've noticed is many high school freshman are so intimidated by the transition to high school, that they aren't sure what they want to do over the four years of it. We can change that.

Project Roadmap would be an outreach program where Juniors, Seniors and College Undergrads would assist high school freshman and sophomores in creating 3-year/4-year plans for their high school experience. What we would do is help them to understand all the potential classes, clubs and extra-curricular activities they have available to them, so they can "find their niche" and "get their feet wet," so to speak.

For example, my friend (we'll call him G-Man for anonymity's sake) is a freshman who's really into computers. I've been helping him identify what courses in computer applications seem to be the right fit for him, as well as prerequisites for each. He is now, as a freshman, dual-enrolling in Computer Ops and Graphics Design. He wants to help improve the hardware capabilities of the school. To do so, he needs to complete the first year curriculum and then sign on as a TA, where he will be able to assist in grand writing and fundraising projects, as well as network administration for the school itself. When he entered the school, he didn't have all this information, so he needed someone to guide him.

This is what we must do. We must, as a collective, assist the collective underclass and help them determine what it is they want to do. For aspiring artists, being able to demonstrate the many classes available (IE: 2D, Graphics Design, Ceramics and Welding) as well as their prerequisites and levels of advancement (IE: 2D Art 1-4) helps them determine their elective maps over four years.

In addition, we can demonstrate all the clubs a respective department has. For my old high school's music department, they had two different types of band as well as choir. By outlining the aspects of each, a prospective student has a much better understanding of where they fit.

And so, this is what we must do. I urge you to reach out and help your school freshman and sophomores as soon as you can, and with as much passion as you can muster!

Bumping with a quote.

"The world is dynamic. Change is its only constant. Being able to monitor this change allows us to shape it, and in doing so, create a roadmap of our future."

This is a nice thought and all, but isn't that what we're supposed to do anyway? Help other people, espscially our underclassmen! Do we really need a mission/project for that?

Well, to be specific, the objective is to help underclassmen develop a 3-year or 4-year plan for high school. It's like a roadmap to what classes they want to aim for and what clubs and events they want to go into. It's like how universities have academic advising to determine what classes best fulfill a student's major requirements. That's the key difference between this project and others before it.

My old high school did something like that. We had link leaders for the freshmen, web leaders for 6th graders and then the younger elementary schoolers would partner up with the older ones. My school district was like one big family. I really want to bring that to other schools.
Anyway we help our younger classmates get through school. If you were a new kid there someone would always be talking to you. People offer to show the ropes. Yeah there's A LOT of bad stuff (we're in the Detriot, MI area) going on too but hell we gots ta stick together man.
XD sorry for the paragraph. ^^;;

It's no trouble at all! In fact, you largely hit on what this mission is all about. :)

Well, I would really want to participate in this mission, but I, myself, am I junior in highschool, and I still haven't reached my goals yet. Is it also possible if someone can help people who haven't reached their goals and still is a junior or even senior? Just asking.
