1 Name: Scarlett : 2017-04-10 12:00 ID:GnvFdRRP [Del]

I've been seeing a lot of book series out there lately, but I don't want to get fully invested in yet another series right now. Are there any good books out there without a series?

I'd recommend The Sound and the Fury or Absalom, Absalom! by William Faulkner, The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, and Wolf Whistle by Lewis Norton. All great books I've had to read in college

6 Name: Aiko : 2017-04-15 09:21 ID:FNMAs2dm [Del]

My favorite author is Terry Pratchett. Some of his books are part of a series, some aren't. Some are kind of part of a series but can be read on their own. All of his books are connected in some way, but not quite like a series

Haruki Murakami's books are great, I especially enjoyed 1Q84 and Norwegian Wood. I can also recommend The secret history by Donna Tartt, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and Never let me go by Ishiguro Kazuo.

If you're into war stories, I recommend "All Quiet on the Western Front." If you want war and satire, your call will be "Catch-22."

The Society of Others, By William Nicholson

16 Name: Rin : 2017-06-24 01:20 ID:St8hJgCV [Del]

Blue by Kasey Jackson. It's about 2 South African girls trying to survive in a world where albinos are brutally mamed for their body parts. One of the girls is afflicted with albinism and lives in compounds safe from the outside but is constantly being hunted by the same man who is huntingn the other girl. Absolutely love it.

I am a cat, its a book about daily life but from the perspective from a cat, set in japan, there are two books to it but its not in a series or anything, you can literally get book two and read chapter 3 and it'll be a story on its own, so its like a book with a bunch of short storys in it, but its really good, and funny, you'll enjoy reading either book one or two

Mort - Terry Pratchett. Only requires minimal prior knowledge of the Discworld universe that it is set in. Can be read as a stand alone. Very funny, witty and mildly satirical, great read.

I would recommend:
The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna

These were some I read this year, and I would have included a lot more except I read a lot of series this year.
