Does anyone have a book recommendation? I don't mind the genre as long as it's not horror.

2 Name: Hiou : 2016-08-26 02:48 ID:+FatipWo [Del]

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was a very interesting book. It's depressing and you'll likely have mixed feelings about it, but it gives a new perspective. It's based on 9/11 and the bombing of Dresden, just as a warning.

The House of the Scorpion is an excellent dystopian book. Don't worry, there's only one book, so no need to worry about a needlessly long YA movie franchise.

Read the Kite Runner and a Thousand Splendid Suns if you can handle graphic content and heartbreak. Otherwise, Tolkien, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald are great. I would stay away from the more 'teen' books as they don't have meaningful content in the long run. To Kill a Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman, anything by Agatha Christie, anything by Poe, and Fahrenheit 451. Orwell (need I say more?). Alexander Dumas if you'd like a long winded read about revenge. Murakami (he's quite like Kafka) and Huguchi Ichiyo (Look for the English compilation of her works: In the Shade of Spring Leaves). Tolstoy, Nabokov, and Dostoevsky. John Locke, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Plato, and philosophers in general. This is a massive (but comparatively small) list of people you should read.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
a great book about WW2 told with comedic twist that parallels absurdity of life and absurdity and devastation of war.

The Emperors Edge by Lindsay Buroker. The book is free to read on her website and on wattpad, as well as the next two books.

A great book with both good humour and a quality plot with action and suspense. I read it in a very short while due to how captivating it was, and i must say, it is one hell of a good modern literature masterpiece. There is great use of language and a well-presented atmosphere and emotional control.
Enjoy reading~

One of my favourite books is "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth. I'd also recommend anything by R.K.Narayan and Saki, P.G.Wodehouse if you like comedy, Ken Follett if you like historical fiction, O.Henry's short stories, and James Herriot if you love animals. "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak made me cry like a little baby, it's absolutely beautiful. "Jonathan Livingstone Seagull" by Richard Bach is also lovely. Ross King's "Michelangelo and the Pope's ceiling" would be a wonderful choice if you're randomly interested in art history.

J.K. Rowling's new series under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith consisting of "The Cuckoo's Calling", "The Silkworm", and "The Career of Evil" starts off a tad slow but still brings in all the thrilling action she promises c:

For fantasy, I'd recommend Tolkien and also the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, the Discworld novels by Terry Prachett, the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage, the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, all of which are my personal favourites; and Anthony Horowitz is a brilliant teen fiction writer and I would highly recommend his books if you haven't read them already c:

Fuji already covered a bunch of classics, so I'm not going there, I have a lot more random recommendations but I think these should do for now :)

>>16 The main series following Ender's saga is a quintet, not a quartet, though I would recommend the entire Enderverse. I think I've read all but two of the 14 novels from that universe.

>>15 DID YOU FINISH PILLARS OF THE EARTH YET???

My favorite book would be Tokyo Heist. I can't say much more without going into detail, but I found the story to be really entertaining.

20 Name: m7x : 2016-09-20 09:36 ID:4vKrPhPw [Del]

I recommend many books of Philip K. Dick. His short stories are great as well as many of his novels (Ubik, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldrich, The man in the high castle [this one also has a show on Amazon], A scanner darkly [also has a great rotoscope movie])

If you have seen Howl's Moving Castle, I suggest you read the trilogy by Diane Wynne Jones. Makes me smile all the time.

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett is another great book.

24 Name: Kaiser : 2016-09-28 04:55 ID:qsJZ7NqQ [Del]

If you're into sci-fi (and just a little drop of horror) , I recommend John Wyndham's "The Day of the Triffids".

I recommend His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman and The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss if you're into fantasy. Oh and His Dark Materials is getting a TV adaptation by BBC1 so I suggest reading it before it comes out.
