So, a little while ago my English student-teacher (the full-time teacher was out sick) gave us an assignment where we were all given a square piece of an art print and told to write a short story about our square. I was at a loss, so I tried to make a story that focused on the most abstract and broad topics I could think of that still connected to the piece at hand. These turned out to be "survival", "humanity", and "social interaction". After brainstorming for a bit and then scrapping all of the brainstorming and just setting finger to key, I started to write Prewar, a short story about a man named Joseph Prewar (originally Prewer, before I spotted the opportunity for plot development) who is trying to make it on a planet that has lost all of its intelligent life and spends his days trying to find out about what happened there. The first chapter was the original story, and the next two (the third is in progress as of writing this post) are additions since then. I'd love to know what you think of it as it progresses.

I hope you enjoy it.
