Hello,
Why is there no writers' thread? Surely I am not the only amateur writer on this site. In this thread, let's gather all of us aspiring writers, poets and even manga artists! If you are in the process of constructing a story, then join in!
Tell us why you write, what you are writing now, and maybe even a bit about your characters.
:)

2 Name: Dokajito : 2013-06-11 00:30 ID:V4cGHkhp [Del]

I write because it's fun to let loose your imagination and emotions every once and a while and I'm not really writing anything. I never seem to finish a story. When I write though I like my characters to have a lot of neat stuff in them and I like to look into a lot of things to get them perfect. Giving them flaws are hard for some reason. To me at least.

3 Name: RaveBeat : 2013-06-11 01:04 ID:FYHqMdzR [Del]

I like the art of storytelling. Theres a story to everything; how things are made, how things are broken down and why things are as they are. I've always been interested in being inside different peoples minds in situations ive never been in myself, so I could say that's why I like writing.
Right now I'm writing an abstract story romance/fantasy type thing just filled with a lot of poetry but in a story form...if that makes sense o_O.

4 Name: Saika : 2013-06-11 06:13 ID:xevKZRdo [Del]

Haha I'm surprised that everyone is so vague so far! More details, people!
>>2 Dokajito: Ooh what sort of neat stuff? Example? I know that feeling of not wanting to give characters flaws :(
>>3 Ravebeat: I can see the psychoanalyst in you! I think the sort of story you write is the sort of story I like reading. Things about what's inside people's heads. I drink that up.
About me -
Right now I'm writing an urban fantasy tale.
My favourite character from it is possibly a 8 year old boy named Posy. He had a rough childhood in an abusive elitist household and has been both loved and feared for all the wrong reasons - being born with a crazy-amazing set of powers. Despite this he's kept a pretty optimistic outlook on life, possibly out of naivety. Who knows. :)

Writing is a part of me. I love creating stories and the people in them. I can determine what happens and become involved in the events that happen in these different worlds. When I write it's like I'm the gate for readers to enter some part of my mind. Currently I'm focusing on making a novel that would be under the categories of fantasy and adventure with action and a bit of romance. It's about how the world would be if dragons were real and were superior to humans. Everything is peaceful until a mysterious being comes in and vows to destroy dragons and humans on Earth. A prophesy foretells that a human would raise an army to fight this foe. Now it is up to a human girl to travel the world and defeat this mysterious being. At this point in time I can't say who my favorite character is especially since this is still a work in progress.
I have other ideas for novels and have written a few short stories. Poetry is also something I enjoy to write every once in a while. I'd like to write a couple of books filled with short stories and see my novels come to light.
P.S. Please don't steal the idea I just mentioned above. I would appreciate it if my work was still mine.

I write because I really don't know what I would do otherwise. I've gotten so used to being quiet that I can't really communicate well anymore, not by talking, at least. But I still have all these thoughts and feelings, and as conceited as it sounds, I think that they're still worth while. So I write about them, and I write about what I'm passionate about. Writing is a place where I don't have to follow rules or worry about what people will say or do, because even if people get angry about what I write, writing somehow makes it easier to make a stand and stick to my guns.
As for my writing, I'm doing your run of the mill controlling society novel. It'll be my first novel, so right now the goal is really just to finish it. Man in a controlling society, rebellious person who can think for themselves shows up and gives him a new perspective, escape from society, and then some form of rebellion. The whole thing is supposed to be allegorical, kind of like George Orwell's "1984." Only, instead of communism, I'm talking about the American public school system and how it's awful.

I write because it brings me comfort and joy, and it's a way to express emotion or ideal. Be it a poem, a story, or a monologue, it allows me to either utilize my imagination, or express myself in a rhetorical style. I do write poems, and there is my own story i've been writing based around the elder scrolls universe. I'd post more but I'd prefer to wait till my story is done before i post about it :) lets just say it's something i'm very passionate about ( yes you could call it Elder Scrolls Fan-Fiction but still).

8 Name: Hana : 2013-06-19 20:31 ID:h/sviM6Q [Del]

well sometimes I write during times when I have some free classes at school. i like writing on a peaceful quiet day since you can write whatever you want, you can let your imagination run wild, and sometimes even write the craziest of things.
i'm currently writing a story that's set in the past, those fantasy-like ones, where there's magic and all, of a young girl. starts off at a humble small village..

9 Name: Spirliss : 2013-06-19 20:36 ID:5nq+E6vf [Del]

I write because it brings the stories trapped in my head alive.

10 Name: Ritsucka : 2013-06-19 21:44 ID:GwiHbXbJ [Del]

I write because I love using my imagination. I'm writing multiple stories since I never stick to one solid story. I am not proud to admit this but most of my characters become overtaken by my repressed problems in life, so instead of writing happy-ish stories my stories are turning more into light S&M (which I really don't like).

11 Name: Erika !IMCadVsMqg : 2013-06-20 12:09 ID:5YvNYWD5 [Del]

I write for many reasons. To release emotions I don't know how to handle, if I'm overly angry writing a story about an angry person helps me understand what I'm feeling and the best way to deal with it. I also love the art of story telling, I think it's one of the best ways of entertainment, and I love entertaining people.

Another reason is because I have to get the stories out of my head. I have stories just pop into my head for no reason at all, and then it stays there until I write it down. I can't help it either. I don't sit around thinking about it. I'll be walking threw the store, see an alarm clock, and now suddenly "Steven Willson was your normal college student. His alarm went off every day at 6 am for class. He got home at noon to eat and take a nap. His alarm went off again at 3:30pm for his next class. After his last class Steven ould go to work until 2am (when the bar he worked at across the street from campus closed). And his day started all over again. Steven wanted to be a doctor in pediatrics nephrology (A children's specialist in the kidneys), and worked very hard to become one, what he didn't expect was how his whole world was about to change in the blink of an eye when his room mate brings home a very strange girl....." Next thing I know my mom's asking me why I'm starring at an alarm clack........... Oh crap! I just gave myself a new story idea. -_-

Well, I'm actually writing four stories. One is a fanfic for Vocaloid, one is a BL (With no sex cause I'm classy), one is one about a loner who gets friends, and the last is one about a girl who falls in love! :D

I'm mostly excited about the fanfic, the BL, and the one about the girl~

The fanfic is supposed to be really long, so I'm seperating it into parts. I'm including fanloids and UTAUloids, too so... Yeah. Part one is in Neru's POV, Part two is Akaito's and so on so forth. So yeah. I published the first chapter on fanfiction.net ! It's called Love Songs, so please read it if you want~

The Boys' Love is going to be really clean, and not that long. The point of view is of the Uke .-. So yeah... Basically the Uke's name is Keigo and the Seme's name is Ryuu. I have a hard time explaining this but... I'll try~

Keigo leads a boring life with no fun. He doesn't care about anything and would only want to survive uneventful life. Ryuu is a delinquent who's tough on the outside, but not-so-tough on the inside. One day while Keigo was walking down the sidewalk, he passes an alley way where he sees Ryuu, a boy he's see countless times while walking past the park. Their eyes met and an unknown feeling spread across them. Ryuu was half-conscious and beat up, so he couldn't clearly remember. And blah blah blah, Keigo coincidentally enrolls in the same high schools as Ryuu. (Ryuu's older :P) Posting that on fictionpress. It's called 'It's embarrassing But... I love you (Couldn't think of anything better)

Lastly, the one about the girl is called 'The Girl Who Dreamt of Never Being Alone'. It's about a girl who was depressed since a very young age and suddenly while sitting on a park bench, a boy takes interest in her. She's surprised because everyone else, including her family, gave up and just ignored her.

So yeah... crappy summaries xD

But... I've always loved to write. I'm twelve right now... But I've been writing since I was in the first grade. I remember that in my first grade class, we always wrote something as a warm up and shared it. My stories were always really long, so I never read mine much. But one day I wrote a poem rather than a story and read it. It was about nature or something... The class stayed silent and the teacher clapped. I think that was my earliest memory of my writing. Since then, more and more ideas flew out my mind. I have to write them down or else. Without literature, I could never be able to fully express all my jumbled thoughts or stories. It's fun, you know? I plan on even being a professional writer or at least a creative writing teacher! Writing is fun so... passing it on is my dream.

I'm the supposed 'English prodigy' of my school, so I'm encouraged to write a lot and technically I'm pretty alright at it, but I'm not creative enough.
I try to write, but it's hard to find a situation I either won't become bored with or will be able to convey correctly. I'm a bit OCD about details, and everything in my pieces needs a basis.
Say I wanted to make a fortress guarded by giant, mechanical spiders that lived in nests at the bottom of the barricades. Well I can't, because I feel the need to justify
a. why they chose spiders over other animals
b. how the spiders work and how they are built c. what do the spiders do to guard the fortress
d. is this physically possible
e. why does the fortress need to be guarded
f. when is this set
g. where is this set
Ect, ect. It's incredibly annoying because, unless I answer ALL the questions, I can't write it. Even worse, if I think about it too much and find a question I can't answer, I have to stop completely.
You have no idea how many pieces I've started and given up on less then four thousand words from the beginning.
As I go around and do everyday things, in my head I'm narrating it like a biography. I pick up a piece of paper on the street, 'I grasped the crumpled flyer, smoothing it out and lifting it into the dim light of the lamp to read the text' in my mind.
It can be really frustrating, but it's the only way to keep my grades at the standard set by my family ;P

I write because writing is a great release. I love creating new worlds and characters and it distracts me from the things I hate. I am currently writing a story on QuoteV.com called Folie. It is about a girl who is living in what we see as reality in the year 1990. She doesn't belong here though. She was born as a bastard child in the world called Folie. Her mother's husband sent her to this world to punish her mother. She is 16 now and just moved in with her half brother Xavier in California. She is starting high school there, as well as figuring out about her birth world. But sense she was sent here, other's only think she is Schizophrenic. I even made my own cover page using Pizap.com but I'm thinking of making a new one. I also write some poetry and posted a few on there as well. It would mean so much to me if you checked them out. I'm to shy to shove them in my friend's faces and tell them to read. I would also appreciate feed back and critiques.

I write because it's a way for me to channel my thoughts, nightmares, demons and the such in a more 'positive' manner. Also because I've always found it entertaining to create these characters that reflect both flaws and 'perfections'. Right now I'm working on 4 short stories and a series my friends and a fellow writer tell me will possibly be a saga. The short stories aren't fully developed yet but I do have some of the characters, as for the series I don't want to reveal too many details. The 4 stories are called Leviathan, Angel Slayer, Malice and The Dark Princess and The Silver Knight. Leviathan's protagonist is a male called Lucius the King who's one of that last few Great Beasts and has very little sentiment or mercy toward humans for hunting his kind. Ange Slayer's protagonist is a young man named Crow Mortuus who's world spirals out of control when his lineage bites him in the rear, though he's frightened and reluctant at first he slowly becomes more adapted to his new life as the story proceeds. Malice's protagonist is actually the villain of the story, a young musician by the name of Samuel 'Sam' Smoke whose inner darkness made him the perfect candidate to become The Champion of Darkness. He's talented in a large assortment of instruments from piano to violin and has knowledge regarding both 'good' and 'dark' magic. He's a very kind and caring person at the beginning of the story until he becomes The Champion of Darkness and demonstrates himself as actually being merciless and even slightly insane, though other secondary characters believe otherwise. Finally there's The Dark Princess and The Silver Knight which centers around two youths around the age of 17, Catherine Celeste and Castiel Sparrow, who end up on an unexpected quest which takes them on an unlikely journey. The pair share a strange relationship but share mutual understanding. Catherine's a princess who's well mannered (to a certain extent) and kind, though she knows quite the amount of spells so she's no damsel in distress while Castiel's a sellsword who's kind, loyal and stubborn with the swordsmanship and archery skills of a knight. Well that's about it, wow can't believe I typed all of this on my phone. Well anyway hope you enjoy the little descriptions I gave.

17 Name: HAM : 2013-06-26 08:35 ID:tDRdDJu4 [Del]

I write because I am extremely bored with nothing else to do. I don't view it as an escape or a part of me, it's just something I do and have been doing for as long as I can remember. Sadly, since my brain decides to be so creative it makes up practically a new world with new characters and plots everyday, it's hard for me to stick to a story and actually finish it.

Currently I'm trying to write a book about a girl with schizophrenia. And also some Destiel fanfic but only as a pastime.

I'm trying to be a writer. Well... A mangaka and it's not going really well. I'm thinking a lot about the oneshot I'm making, but it's quite hard how I should end it. I have a couple of ideas, but I feel like they're not good enough.

I started writing when I entered highschool and the reason why I write was because it was fun at first. Then I started getting deeper into the stories. Before I knew what was happening, my stories became.... warped. I think it was because I was changing throughout highschool as well. If I change, so will my stories i guess...
Part of the reason why I wrote so much was because I was lonely and I had no friends. Writing was the only substitute to fill in the hole in my heart. It worked, but that still made me even more lonelier. Even so, I never regretted.

21 Name: Myla : 2013-06-29 01:44 ID:LQ+QynK9 [Del]

I write because it's a past-time I have. I can also relieve any anger or stress I have by writing. Now, I'm just writing a few fanfictions to test out my skills but I have tried to create some characters. Actually, I only started to like reading last year in June. I have an idea for a story but it's not that detailed yet. These are just some rough ideas for it.
Title: A Line Meant To Be Crossed Over
Genre: School, Romance, Friendship
Main Character Details)
Name: Haruka Michi (Distant Path), mostly known as Nezumi (Rat)
Age: 14
Character: Prefers to be distant from anyone, easily annoyed

And... That's basically it. I had to do my research for this.
Writing definitely isn't easy. I somehow managed to think of a plot when I took 2hours to sleep. It's true that I neglect my studies for writing, but I never once regretted that choice. Writing is my life and no one can force me to stop.

22 Name: Theophilus : 2013-06-29 13:52 ID:N2n8mToU [Del]

I write to clear my head of the writing. Anything that comes in, must go out. Even if that means a novel, which it currently does. I'm not much of an artist so I'm strictly written word, but I would be interested in perhaps teaming up with an artist.

23 Name: aradjha : 2013-06-29 17:33 ID:7PEI4F2y [Del]

I write because I love it. The boys of my family always used to get together and share stories and drawings. I honed my skill and one of my life's goals is to become a cartoonist, a writer, something like that.

I might need some help with fine tuning my story, actually. It's a baccano! like structure with Loads of Characters set in a Fantasy world. Each character exists to explore themes like "Promoted to Parent" or "Family feuds" or "Corruption". The story takes place in a jungle state.

>>20 As you grow and learn and experience the world, your stories will take a deeper and more mature flavor. This is excellent, I encourage you to re-write parts when they become redundant and really explore what it is you want to say. For me, storytelling is just communication. Write. Constantly, incessantly. Keep pencil and paper on hand at all times. And boldly experience the real world as much as you can. You will benefit, your writing will benefit. Take in the world around you.

>>22 Wow. I haven't taken any of the other posts in this thread seriously, but you hit the nail on the head just now. You honestly understand writing the way I do. I can never find people who just get it like that.

Now, every writer has a different system or belief about why they're writing, and I've gone through god knows how many, but in the end, you're right - what goes in must come out. As much as I like to keep stories bottled up for re-evaluation, I can't get them out of my head to move on until they're fully written down, hence why writing is also a great outlet for stress and ranting as well. Whatever emotions I'm feeling get transferred to the paper and leave me calm and blank, open to the next positive influence that comes along.

...if that makes any sense.
/cough.

I write because I like story. I write because sometimes when I'm reading a really good book or watching a really good show sometimes I have to stop and say, "fuck." I write because I want other people to stop and do the same.

Whether or not I actually accomplish this goal is another matter, but I think I'm a fairly competent writer. (I actually have a post up in this board asking for feedback, if anyone would like to go there and tell me otherwise, haha.)

But in the end whether or not I can inspire in others the same sense of awe that storytelling has provided me, the practice of writing still allows me to engage story and hopefully understand it. When it isn't simply enough to consume story, creating story helps me satisfy my creativity and intellect.

27 Name: Ashleigh-Jade : 2013-07-01 00:30 ID:wkjBUa1c [Del]

I've sort of been writing on and off for the last three years of my life. My mind comes up with random ideas at random times - sometimes it's a fanfiction, sometimes original - and they just bug me for ages until I at least write down in some way, shape or form the idea that I had.
I must have at least 10 different stories sort of on the go at the moment. I've never actually finished anything that wasn't a fanfiction, because I don't have to think as much about those and I don't care as much what does into them.
I don't even have any sort of set genres that I write for. Most of them will have some sort of fantasy/supernatural twist to them, even if it's just a little hint, but then I've also got a heap of crime/real-life oriented ones. And then there's that one story that I'm sort of ashamed of starting because it's a weird romance story and I generally hate romance books these days, because they're just everywhere and I can't get away from them, but at least if I ever finished it properly it would probably sell well.
It is a goal in my life to actually finish and get one of my stories published at some point. It doesn't matter to me how popular it is or how much money I make off of it, it would simply be a piece of proof that yes, I can do this. That my life isn't meaningless.
At the moment for me writing is one of the only things that makes sense in my life, so it's really quite important to me.

I write because I love stories in general. Especially short stories and fables. I have this goal to write a novel before high-school starts. Well, it's the last month of summer, and I havent come up with a decent plot yet. I don't really care if I get published, what with being a kid still, but its a promise to myself I'm trying to see through. Oh, and I like to plan things out before I write. Because everything is so interesting.
The story I'm trying to create is something of a steampunk world, but I'm having my doubts on that. I mean, I had a decent plot planned, just that it seemed boring, so Im fixing it before I actually start. One of my characters is a clockwork doll later turned steampunk angel, but Im doubting to keep that as well. Im trying to decide whether to add magic in, keep the steampunk bit, or just have both. Ill probably go with both in the end..
And well, Im a visual sort of person, so I draw quite a bit, and I wind up fussing about my character's outfit than the actual plot at times. Good way to procasinate though.
So yeah, amatuer writer/artist here, hello.

I like to write because I love the feeling of people reading my stories and telling me that they're good. I also write because I have so many ideas that I just want to get on paper and create into this adventure that no one will forget. I am currently writing two stories. One on Wattpad.com called When Chaos is Created. It has to do with two very strange people, a human and a demon meet, and when they do, their lives are twisted and turned to be unrecognizable. Another one is Legend of the Nature, which I have no plans of putting on a fine arts website because of the fear of getting stolen. This one is a more serious project of mine that I plan on publishing. It has to do with a fifteen year old girl who gets suddenly sucked into the world of demons and humans with the power to use magic. She also learns that she's their leader, and that she must train to lead the island, and also, to stop a future apocqlypse, which has been the fate of all her past lives.

I like writing because I've always had a thing for creating my own stories and telling others. I'm still working out the kinks in many of my major plots so far, so I haven't gotten very far. But I still like creating my own characters and worlds so to speak. Yeah, that's pretty much it.

The same reasons as >>17. I can write for hours on end yet couldn't finish something up, since there are so many elements I want to squeeze in every story.
It's as if writing's just a normal thing for me to do, like it's what I am supposed to do. I write for the sake of writing, I guess.
I'm currently working on a story. Set on a fictional, present-day world, it's about a college student and how he meets a killer on the loose, and how the people around him are getting murdered one by one, with him being the suspect. Psychological and mystery. Here's to hoping I wouldn't abandon it.

I've been writing since I was 12, because life gave me a reason to do it. Although life may seem boring or tragic, there are so many things you can learn from it. Not from school, not from your parents, but from something called "school of life" in which we all enroll at some point. Right? I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to your parents or quit school, but there comes a moment when you have to stop for a second, take a deep breath and analyse a bit.

Is this where you want to go to? Maybe the answer to this question gave me the impulse I needed to write.

I write about anything and anyone. I can build a whole new world in a split of a second, the other second - it's gone. At present time, I'm writing two books at the same time with short stories either philosophycal or about daily life, something you need to read during a vacation.

Truth be told, I'm not so good at it. I write in my native language (i.e. Romanian) just to be sure there are no grammatical mistakes. I tried writing in English, but I'm not so confident. Hopefully, I'll manage to publish one of the books soon enough and that I could improve my skills as a writer-to-be. So help me God.

I'm a writer who has established a complicated sort of story in my head that is really hard to dump on paper. It is about dragons (hence my alias) and I love to talk to people about it.

I finally started getting one of my ideas down on paper. I've done some diagrams and written out the setting - just need to work on the characters and start putting it together.

I love writing too :) I have like 3 book going at on at once lol... I find I'm interested in different ideas at different times so I incorporate each idea into the story I'm most interested in writing and finishing at the time... Thus far I haven't finished writing any story I've started haha...

I like writing, I'm just not all that good at it. I can never finish anything. I'm good at helping other people with their stuff and critiquing things, but I can't seem to write anything of considerable length or depth that I'm happy with.

I'm not currently writing anything, but I'll tell you why. It may seem cliche and I'm probably not the first to say this but, I write because I hope to inspire other people. I hope to create an amazing escape from reality for others as so many authors have done for me. I love being able to escape into someone else's life and mind to get away from my own. My home life isn't the sweetest or the most comforting and books and stories help me to es ape and worry about someone else's problems. It's easier to deal with a problem that doesn't exist, right?

48 Name: Lawli : 2013-07-23 10:48 ID:Francuqb [Del]

I write because... I like it. Is fun. I've been writing for a while. However, I get too many ideas at once and get bored with the one's I'm doing to actually finish an actual BOOK.... However, I am working on a comic series currently. It's called "Olémoo"... I know, stupid name, but it's actually a very dark story. The main characters include the antagonist, Olémoo, the protagonist, Xee, and Xee's best friend, Fitzgerald.

Olémoo: An (as original as it is) evil doll. Xee's little sister brings him home from school one day, and things UN the household quickly start going awry. Xee sees Olémoo tampering with her father's work one day, and begins trying to stop him and reveal him for what he truly is, while trying to figure out what he is for herself.

Xee: A human. She's strong-willed and her family acts kind towards her, but they really just ignore her. The only two people she really is close to are her sister (before Olémoo arrived, anyway), and Fitz.

Fitzgerald: Xee's near-genius best friend who helps her is her quest to stop Olémoo. Xee often just refers to him as "Fitz".

I called myself a writer since I read the complete series of Harry Potter. Also, I've been doing a lot of fanfiction lately, not something to be proud of. But I love writing. It's where I truly feel alive and that what I write is proof that it is real to me. I considered it my freedom, that's why I never write for people. I don't like it when I write it for them or to gain benefit from them because I don't want my freedom to vanish. But I write for myself, and it is the only place where I could truly be selfish and not give a damn about anything else.

I'm not alone ; uuuu ;
Welp, I write because my frustrations can be vented out here and my imagination just runs wild and it's okay to make mistakes. can't write a book or poem for anyone because maybe they won't like it... I also want to make a living out of writing. In writing, I can have not a care in the world because it is time for me to think, to imagine and to decide what I want with my life.

As for now... I currently have no inspiration to write and I stick my head in my drawers for something but there's nothing but blankkk... Daaaamn, what will I dooo?

I'm not really a writer. I've never really written anything perticularly worthwhile or anything, but I do sometimes find myself writing a load of neo-nonsensical, random, irrelevant bullshit that isn't actually random or irrelevant because it's actually completely relevant to my exact position at the exact point in which it's being written, so to speak. Or not speak. It's kind of a mouthful.

Here's an example.

"SAC’s always seem to be set on the most inconvenient of days, right after an immensely shitty day that leads to a night of self-indulgent and totally not worth it down-time that generally involves little to no studying what-so-fucking-ever. These nights of barely illegal debauchery (or, it is in your head anyway), of course lead to a late realization of just how early it is, (or, perhaps, an early realization of just how late it is(…?)), resulting in an incredibly brief scramble-study period that never lasts more than a good 10 minutes. You then get into the dejected reasoning that there is always more time for more scramble-studying the next day, enough self-justification to allow yourself to peaceably fall asleep with few, maybe even no qualms about just how fucking wasted your past day was.

So then comes the next day, and you’re sitting in class, nervously awaiting the arrival of a teacher you hope to fucking god isn’t present, even though you know for a fact that she actually is. You figure that maybe she’ll die of a heart attack on the way here. Maybe she’ll get offered a poisoned apple or a choke on a flying piece of rabid spring roll that someone nonchalantly threw out of an open window and got caught on a piece of flying bark on a windy day, resulting in a kind of spring roll wind-surfing thing that somewhat tragically ends up in the throat of a 50-something year old English teacher who was just on her way to give her students a not very important pre-SAC practice SAC. Hell, maybe she’ll spontaneously combust. Anything to get me out of the fucking not-SAC pre-SAC SAC thing that isn’t actually a SAC."

I don't even know.

>>56 I have a good books which explains a lot how to write novel and other types of writings: it's "Scenario's anatoomy" (L'anatomie du scénario" in french, I'm not sure of the traduction) by John Truby. It's divided in 11 chapters which are about about creating the world where the story takes place (you have the time -when/how long-,the place and "sub-worlds"), the characters, the plot and other elements.
I think this book is really complete though I haven't finished to read it yet. So if you can find it don't hesitate :3 it's a very good tool.

I had an idea for training to write stories while watching Baccano!, and it's to take a real event that happened... whenever, like an accident or something else, and then imagine a story taking place at this moment; it could be realist or fantastic (I should give a try too °A°).

Aaaand to answer to the thread, I write (well, used to write, I gotta start again) first because I like it. It's fun, and well, the fact of creating worlds and characters acting in it is awesome. It also permits to evade a little from the actual world, go into the imaginary, express yourself which is very important to my mind.
And for now, I plan to be a comic writer/drawer so well ^^

I'm preparing a fiction about parallel universes (or alternate reality dunno) and an other about demons and angels.
For the second one I knew that demon vs angel is a common topic so I tried to do something "new" (other persons have surely had the same idea before me and maybe there are books about it but well) by taking the point of view of the demon, and doing something like The Divine Comedy, with a travel from Hell to Heaven.

I should work on it, by the way =A=

im a terrible writer but ive got friends who are and theyve taught me some stuff so have some tips

write first edit later. the creative process and the editing process happen on different sides of the brain if i am correct so write in chunks and edit when youre done
work at your own pace. this is kinda obvious but youre better off writing a small amount each day than doing it all at once. that way you dont lose interest quickly
know your characters. there are heaps of 'character checklists' on the internet that you can use to get to know them better. but remember that your audience shouldnt know nearly as much as you do until the very end
learn to summarize. my friend tells me this is MOLTO IMPORTANTE especially if you want to get published. try to summarize each arc into a small paragraph or even a single sentence. shorter is better
your story doesnt have to be linear. if you feel like writing the end of a story do that. forcing yourself to create something that doesnt interest you will make you tired of the work as a whole but try to get the hard parts done first if possible

also please post your stuff here i may be a terrible writer but i love reading

Wow! I did not expect this thread to stay alive! I've been reading through all the responses (barely halfway through).
You are all so fascinating and I can't imagine ever thinking of or using the ideas that many of you have. (That is to say, I wouldn't know what to do with them even if I stole them.)
I feel quite comforted that many of us are rather similar.
We write because the stories won't go away. They come and they seize you without giving you any notice. We write because the emotions are running strong or the tears are coming and they fuel the ink that runs from our pens.
We write because we want to connect with others. We want to inspire them. We want the same impulses to shoot down a thousand million beating hearts at the same time. Impulses that came from us.
I wanted to give you guys a little bit of cliche sounding advice.
Do not stop creating. We live in a society where it is necessary to be useful to survive. To be useful we must give. And if what we can give can bring happiness or understanding or anything - then more power to you. So take pride in the fact that you create. You make new things and they might have been recycled from a dozen different sources but they are still your own. You have contributed to the very fabric of reality. Do not let anyone stop you from creating. No words or thoughts should stop the pure driving force of inspiration.
You are different to many others because you are a creator.
Embrace this power.

There are mostly times during breaks and day(s) off from work that I write from a minimum of 1/2 to a full 4 hours just to write at least one of the few manuscripts I wrote and cast aside in a neat stacked pile to evaluate and revise again in the future. The thing with getting someone else to publish your books is that you always have a high risk that someone could possibly steal your manuscripts. They could easily say that it was their idea and that they wrote it. I, for one, have considered self-publishing not only because it's faster but also safer for the author. It's a highly unlikely probability that someone will steal credit for a self-published book.

Well I have pretty much been writing all of my life. I still need to work on grammar and editing, but as far as content goes my stuff is spot on. The grammar isn't atrocious, but it certaintly needs to be worked on, and I am getting better.

So far my only accredation is I have won the poetrynation poetry contest before in which I earned being published in the book they publish every contest. I didn't win the cash prize though, however my friend has. Recently I found a few online/IRL zines that said I could submit something from them and they would pay me so many cents per word. One of them is the magazine Stephen King was published in. The thing is my computer broke, and I don't trust doing my writing on a library computer because of all the lurkers. So I need to save up for a new one and then my writing professionally will be off again.

Ironically however, I got on the library computer today and found out they have their own poetry contest every year. After the contest there is a poetry party where the winners receive there awards and people can even share their poetry with each other. I am picking up the form to enter once I am done on the computer. It should be fun. On another side note I am thinking about starting my own poetry corner where you can read some of the works I don't mind sharing. (not all my work will be there as some companies require your work not be published anywhere else including online.)

>>84 No matter what you're doing, you should make sure you have proof that you wrote it. Self-publishing is actually a little more dangerous since people tend to post their works online before they actually get it copyrighted and all that, but there are risks in any form of publication.

It's usually cheaper to copyright through a publishing company after signing up with them, and some publishing companies won't accept pre-copyrighted works, but it makes it quite a bit safer when you're sending manuscripts out. If you can't afford copyrighting and don't want to risk getting rejected for it, you can also hire someone to sign off on it. I'm not sure what the official word for it is, but it's basically people who have a license to sign off that something was created by x person on x date for x purpose. You can just get a lawyer to do this as well.

Also, you should never self-publish anything that you really don't want stolen until you have it totally copyrighted. If you want to do a series, it might be smart to trademark the name of the series itself as well. (If someone else trademarks it afterwards, you won't be able to release them with that name anymore.) Yadiyadiya, there's a lot to it, but I don't doubt you've looked it up already and will continue to look into it. Just be careful with whatever form of publication you roll with c:

87 Name: Ghost : 2013-09-05 20:35 ID:0LLPwEsQ [Del]

I never thought of it that way. It's a lot more expensive to send it to a publisher though. I just don't have the money i need right now. I do hope that my books become best sellers. It would be like a dream come true for me.

Hey Ghost,
If you're going down the self publishing route, and you're doing it not for the sake of vanity (i.e. 'ooh I have a published book, I'm so cool') but because you seriously want to break into the literary world, then you'll need to do a lot of self promotion. Best sellers are best sellers not because they're full of fantastic writing and storyline but because they have stories that appeal to the current trend of thinking in mainstream literature and because they have excellent publicists.
If you want to be a best seller, you will need to have reach. You need to network. If you haven't already got a website, set one up. Try and make friends with other writers online so they will advertise for you without you even asking. Link your website to everything. Make it look nice, include little snapshots of your book, freebies, tons of pictures, sections for fan art, keep a blog on writing tips.

Actually yeah, that last point - blogs are an excellent way to gain a lot of networking. Blog about something that people need or want to read about. Once you've established that sort of relationship, it'll be easier to market your book.

That said, I'd always recommend someone to a proper publishing company if they feel like they've written a really good book that everyone should read. There are publishing companies out there that are looking for bright, young aspiring writers such as you. Some even offer prizes for best manuscript.

e.g. this http://textpublishing.com.au/about-text/the-text-prize

Look out for these publishers - if you need any more links I'm happy to help. If you're interested in getting into proper publishing, you should find yourself a scout/agent first. They'll know the ropes while you don't, and will be able to guide you through the process.

Some might even read your manuscript for free and give you a professional opinion about its publishing likelihood. (Some editors too). You'll have to print it out yourself though.

>>88 You have to be careful and read the fine print of writing competitions, especially by publishers. I've come across more than one where, once you enter, you've given up ownership over it and aren't allowed to reap monetary benefits from it beyond any prizes you get. Most of the manuscript competitions won't let you release the manuscript with another publisher, though some of them are only if you place.

It will get your name out there... just be careful to not lose more to fine print than you're winning, you know?

Hey guys. I'm Pancham...and I love writing. When I was a child I was always sick....I felt as if I had nothing at all in the world. Then in the third grade they started having us do random story writing exercises...and in fourth grade I wrote a few short stories for a school project. A year later I got really sick. I was in bed a lot because I had to have surgery....and I heard the song Into The West for the first time. I had a dream that night...a beautiful that would be hard to describe right now. It was them that I knew I was meant to be a writer. Now I'm 18...and have been trough a whole lot....but my one constant has been witing....which is the only think I have ever felt good at. I have even got a small fanbase of people in my town that read my stories on facebook, fanfiction, textnovel, etc. Someday I hope to get something published....but even if not...I mostly write for me. But I also write because reading saved me in a dark time...and I want my writing to save somebody too....anyway...long post...*coughs*

Hey! No that's not a long post! I saw you in the personal section. I'm so glad writing got you through all this. Having a fanbase feels really good right? Sometimes people who don't know you that well can make you feel a lot better than people who are close to you ever will, funny right? I hope your writing will save someone someday too. I know if you have the right heart for it, and the right drive, it'll definitely happen some day. That said, in reference to your other post - PLEASE GET SOME EDUCATION IT WILL HELP. No pressure. :D

"Please get some education,"

What's that even supposed to mean in this context? :l

I sincerely hope you can get your education if that is what you wish to do. Also do you have a backup in case you don't get published. My back up is joining the airforce, learning a skill, and then getting set up with the job program they have to give jobs to veterans. (If you do computers you make bank once you get out. My friends sister is working for microsoft) I have to be off my adhd medications for a year though so until then I make money by working whatever I can. I am trying to save up enough for a truck, because you can make like 125 a day selling used pallets to companies. Also try to find magazines that publish short stories. Or enter contests with cash prizes.

I write not only to vent, but because I love it. There's also ideas spinning around in my head almost constantly, and I've got to get those out in order to clear my head. Otherwise, I can't concentrate.

Currently, I'm keeping a website/blog for my work. It's got bi-weekly updates on Fridays, and guest authors are more than welcome. (http://yafantasy.yolasite.com/) Everything I've written so far has been fantasy, although there's been a realistic fiction and a sci-fi piece submitted by guest authors.

As for the characters, I have too many to say much about. At one point, when I first got into RPing, I had nearly 100 of them. Now, there's probably twenty or so that I actually use. I can say, however, that I am developing a girl named Riddle, and I've just finished one named Rebecca.

heyy. sorry i havent replied lately. been really busy with school. I am considering getting a lawyer to sign off on my manuscript as a witness, saying that the manuscript is originally mine. That way no one can steal it. I am close to finishing another book too. Which is way awesome. I have so many character's personalities inside of me and my head at the moment that it's making me hear things. Getting into character while writing helps a lot but only if they leave once you are done. If they dont leave you r in for one hell of a night.

I write because it gives me a meaning outside of the world around me and makes me look at the world around me. Other than that, it gives me entertainment when I no longer find that in the world in which I've come to know as my home. Writing becomes that of a dream you can escape into with paper instead of lapsing into the dreary world in which you have no control of. In the world of writing, the characters become real and I enjoy writing for them.

It's an amazement, but, in my years of life, I've written over five hundred pages of novel worthy manuscripts that sit in a corner and gather dust. This year, though, for a school project I am to write a full novel by the end of the school year. And, to go along with that venture, I'm writing for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and that's a full new novel. For the last few years I've won it, so hopefully it goes great for me the last year of my high school life! It's been my dream to write, so I will do so until my last breath.

As for what I'm writing right now, two to three novels on similar topics of looking at the aspect of "good" and "evil" or in the sense of "human" behavior, or something along those lines. It's an exciting feat and I hope you all as much luck as I can bring!

It seems lately like self publishing is the way to go. I've heard horror stories about authors losing rights to their own material when sighed to a publisher...

Despite my fears regarding the publication industry, I write because I have a story to tell. A story that has been brewing under the surface for a very long time. A chose your own adventure story, to be exact.

My novel has undergone many changes and thus it is hard to describe it.

With each passing NanoWriMo I have to rebuild it. Each and every November it has a new name. To be completely honest it has been a Revenge story, Horror story, Romance story, Comedy and a Fantasy/ Sifi. =w='

Genre aside, The story at is essentially about A father and his three sons. They travel through three plains of existence to save their youngest family member. ^w^'

Hello.
I write because it's fun to imagine things happening in the story as you write, or even as you're reading. I love writing about it pouring rain and then having that sound spattering inside my imagination. I write fan fiction, poetry, even deep-set imageries. I love drawing as well.
I have a DeviantArt AxelRoxasluv and a FanFiction account MyFFisaKoH. I haven't posted anything on my DeviantArt in a while and I've just started my FanFiction account, but I will take requests for stories or drawings. I will write or draw anything. I will accept any genre, maturity rating, or anything that would just sound nice.
I recently posted in this literature forum my story "Slipping Away Into Gorgon."

Hi...

Its called "Salve Maria"....
It some how turn into a madness and suspence story... It`s actually like another part of story i wrote before...
I really need to finish this one because it`s taking forever.
Thats the weird thing, i tend to write alot of stories of characters that have madness or have to deal with madness.
Its a really weird habit of mine.
But i try to write stories with good endings.

I spent one summer working on a novel and I got about 50 pages in. The problem is I think I need to change the whole development of the main character so that he ends un differently, but that would require a massive re-write, which is impossible in collage.

111 Name: Gill Morgan : 2013-11-02 14:45 ID:fqWoRnZQ [Del]

Sorry, about that one, I just wanted to vent a bit. I'm in Nano Wrimo too. I'm writing a story about the ghost of a girl who committed suicide in the fifties and now floats around with a fly that she can talk to. It's called the Phantom and the Fly
