Somewhat Unknown Authors (9)

Honestly, I feel that most books written by the more unknown or less popular writers are much more creative. They have this thing to it, something that makes you fall in love with them. So in order for more people to discover these authors, I decided to make a thread.

Currently, I'd like to say Ransom Riggs. I love his work, and I'm currently trying to purchase Talking Pictures... Which is hard because B&N is a huge store >.>... He has this unusual way of writing and I love his most notable work, Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. A diamond, being one of the few books I love.

Next I want to say Alyson Noel... Before you all hate me, let me say this. I consider her unknown despite her popularity because no one knows who she is, at least not in my school. So yeah, she's just a considerable mention, being one of my favorite Authors.

Anyways, who's your favorite considerably unknown Author that deserved some recognition?

I think Jeff Stone and Mark Haddon are pretty good authors :D

I think two worth mentioning are Stephen Donaldson and David Eddings. They're my two favorite fantasy writers and I don't know anyone else whose heard of them. They both wrote stories in a similar style to lord of the rings (big quest to save the world) but I found them much more engaging.

I'd argue against Stephen Donaldson being an unknown author.

George R. R. Martin is an unknown that I like quite a bit, but I suppose his popularity is also arguable.

I don't really get what you guys meant by somewhat unknown authors. While it is true that I haven't heard of some of the authors you mentioned, it is not because they are not popular but because I am not in the niche of the genre of books I read. For example, I like whodunit but hate romance and my friend likes romance but dislikes whodunit. So when I talk about Jeffrey Deaver or Agatha Christie or Jacqueline Winespear, she may have very vague idea or none at all. It is the same if she talks about Meg Cabot or... Okay, I don't know. I really don't like romance.

Point is, I would like to know your definition first. Else it will be hard to share the authors because someone is bound to turn up and argue against your choice of author. As for me personally the image of an unknown author is one who self-published his work, an indie. Like Hugh Howey (Not that I have read his books.) Or do you already have a thread for indie author here?

*because the books they write are not in the niche of books I read.

Sorry about that.

>>6 When I say unknown, I refer to maybe... I'll just make a list xD:

-Like you said, indie authors
-Or maybe new authors who you believe have potential
-Or authors who aren't very popular, meaning that the majority of people don't know who that author is
-Or, say that their writing style or preferred genre of writing (Suspense, Adventure, Romance, etc...) doesn't fit in the mainstream, and so not many people read their stuff

I would like to say that's what I mean, but really it's a thread for anyone who isn't a million dollar author that everybody loves. Hope that helps xD

I can almost feel the suppressed hipsterness seeping off this post.
