1 Name: Sky Dash!o7FgAKUFnM : 2012-08-01 21:52 ID:VpeQGjlk [Del]

Hey everyone just wondering if it might be a good idea for us Dollars currently still in school (or not if they love to read) to list their summer reading lists!

Here's mine:

-The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

-Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

-1776 by David McCullough

-The Gilded Cage by Troy Soos

And that's it ^___^

All of them except the last one were mandatory, but I chose The Gilded Cage.

So yeah anyway feel free to share and discuss o3o

>>2 I couldn't get past the first page ORZ
I am currently reading Memoirs of a Geisha though. It'a really good so far.

We have summer reading assigned, but the teachers never do anything with it :/ Plus, my lit teacher never gave us the sheet for the Summmer Read last year, so I have no clue what I'm supposed to read this year.

oh boy, I hope no one spits on me... I read Hunger Games Trilogy before summer and read all 4 books of Twilight Saga (on kindle so I dont have to hold the book around town, bc twilight is somehow equivalent to teen girls drooling over sparkly dudes) during summer
and yes, the books are better than the movies. why? when you read the book YOU are the director and you picture their face and their voice and their tone and when you see the human version, well, it's kind of mediocre compared to your brain's version, since that is always more of your liking. At least that's how it works for me
I wanted to read Sherlock Holmes next but for some unknown reason, it is not available on amazon... so maybe Frankenstein or Dracula to pay tribute to the classics

Well, I have to read "Ties that Bind, Ties that Break" but that's it.

>>5 No, not really... The Twishit Saga books are worse than the movies. Story sucks. Writing sucks. Characters suck.

But then again, we have a whole 'nother thread for that discussion.

The Twilight Saga, though it has grammar mistakes and the like, appeals to some people and not to others. I dislike them, but that doesn't mean I have to be a dick about it.
In reply to the actual thread, I just graduated from school, and some of my favorite books are the Sherlock Holmes series, the Inheritance Cycle, and the series that begins with the Sea of Trolls.

I envy you people who don't have to do much work with your summer reading lol

>>3 They're all pretty good! You should give them a try ^__^

For Honors English this year, I have to read East of Eden by John Steinbeck, which is incredibly boring IMO, and I have to also be prepared to write an in-class essay in the first week. I also had to read a second book, which I chose from a list of four. I don't remember the options, but the one I chose was The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. I liked that one, which is good because I have to write an essay on it. O.O

Last year I read A History of the World in Six Glasses, The Bride Price, and The Book Thief but I can't remember any of the authors >.<

>>13 That book is so friggin' helpful. What edition are you reading? I have a couple older copies, but I should probably get a more recent release :/

Reading the Narcissism Epidemic over the summer. Seems appropriate, given today's media.

I have to read "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. It's not one I would recomend for the readers who don't like blood. The book is about a real murder that happened in the USA.

Guess what!? The lovely Bible. What's funny is I'm atheist. But when you do read it for it's literature it is ok in the sense that it does have good life lessons to some degree. Oh and also I have to read Of Mice and Men (pretty good) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin (alright).
