Magical realism. Weird but cool characters. Haruki Murakami never failed at it.

I am very interested in reading this author's works but I never got around to it. I thing their work sounds intriguing and I really want to give it a try. I think I might start with this one right here.

I just finished "Norwegian Wood." Murakami seems to enjoy leaving his endings rather open-ended. Nothing really quite resolves. I may have to reread it again, but I do enjoy his characters, as he makes them realistic.

Starting to read 1Q84 pretty damn interesting storylines/plot

Norwegian Wood is great, not the best, but amazing. The last one I read was After Dark. It was far more awesome. I have started Hard-boiled Wonderland. The way he narrates a situation is so great!

So are his works like those of Franz Kafka? If so I would really be interested! Kafka does a really awesome job of presenting freudian psychology in his short stories...

I enjoyed 1Q84 but my favorite is still a toss-up between "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" and "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle".

I've read Dance, dance, dance and loved it, but after reading Norwegian Wood, South of the Border, West of the Sun, After Dark and The Elephant vanishes, i kinda got the feeling that all of his books are basically the same, like one story with the same set of characters is being retold countless times with slight variations. But I really like his style, so I'll probably read a few more before I decide if I'm right or not. Recommendations are welcome :)

I was just given IQ84 for my birthday, so I'm reading that. Interesting stuff.

>>7 I've been told that they're similar to Kafka in whre he presents a type of Freudian psych in his stories.

>>10 I wouldn't say that, because I interpret each character differently. Probably similar style, but that's my own humble opinion.

It truly is wondrous how he manages to weave a world which is magical and so real at the same time.
It's wondrous, and perhaps a little discerning.
