Do you think romance novels are misunderstood?
Are any other genres misunderstood?

Hm, misunderstood in what way? And at that, what is there to understand?
Embellish a bit.

I think this thread has been misunderstood.
Primarily because the term misunderstood is very easy to misunderstand if you don't give examples as to what you're talking about.

kinda like a stereotype. You think you know what the genre would be about but it ends up being something totally different.

I've read a young adult romance novel before and I must admit that I thought it would be totally mushy mushy love story junk, but it turned out to be really action packed full of action, and deaths, and backstabbers, and love triangles! ^-^
It was mostly filled with backstabbers and Supernatural fights and gun fights and stuff though. It was a pretty good book!!
