Look at Nanami's username, it looked like this.

The !wVoPX6Dk6M part is called tripcode, you made them by putting '#' on the Name textbox and adding some combination of words and numbers behind them. Treat it like your password, the system will then take the 'password' and scramble it to create a unique code. This unique code can only be made by the exact keyword and numbers you've inputted, so anyone couldn't possibly recreate them (unless they brute-force their way to guess yours). People had been using it long before there was a registering system on the internet, so your tripcode IS YOUR TRIPCODE. People would know that it's really you when the code is there. You know how the saying goes, don't share your password. The same thing applies for this one.
