The sage box.
Theres a box on the top right hand side that looks like this
Sage [__]
When you click it it sages your comment. When you comment on a thread, your comment bumps said thread to the top of the Board. Saging your comment prevents this from happening. You can test out the sage button here http://dollars-bbs.org/test/

so basically it's like commenting in private without making my comment pop up in the news feed of some sort ?

You see how your comment made this whole thread get bumped up to the top? Saging basically anchors the thread down so it doesnt get bumped up.
When you dont sage: Whole thread gets bumped to the very top of the Board.
When you sage: Thread stays right where it is.
