Final Fantasy VII | Remake is a remake of the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy VII, a 1997 Japanese role-playing game for the Sony PlayStation, developed and Published by Squaresoft/Square Enix.
Final Fantasy is Square's flagship title launching a multimedia franchise with 15 numbered titles as well as a plethora of side games with Final Fantasy VII being by far their most popular in the franchise.
The original game was groundbreaking for the time and was the first entry to the Final Fantasy series for many.
The remake was originally announced back in the year 2015 and was released in April 10, 2020, with much delay ensuring that the quality of the game would be something the fans waiting would deserve.
The Remake itself sold 3.5 million copies in its first three days of release, being one of the PS4's top-selling releases, eclipsing such games as Marvel's Spider-Man and God Of War.
You play as Ex-SOLDIER turned mercenary Cloud Strife as he joins the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE and fight against the Shinra Corporation which rules over the city of Midgar and is responsible for draining the planet's life energy.
The remake received critical acclaim from reviewers, with many praising the new story elements that were previously unexplored while giving a new take and fresh perspectives, being nostalgic and new at the same time. Others have praised the combat system for being unique and engaging, being a complete reinvention of the original turn-based system.

Final Fantasy VII is a game that many people hold close to their hearts so it's important that Square lives up to the expectations of fans.
I have a long history with the Final Fantasy franchise but I never played VII, so I don't have the same emotional attachment to this remake as others may have, but I just picked up The remake about a week ago and I'm enjoying it so far. It took me a while to get used to the combat system, however. I'm too used to turn-based combat and it's a bit saddening to see Square straying away from that in favor of more action RPG style gameplay, but it's growing on me.
What do you all think of the remake? Are you enjoying it so far? What are your thoughts on the new story elements and combat system? What is your history with the Final Fantasy franchise?
Final Fantasy VIII was my first entry in the series and Final Fantasy IX is my favorite.
