I think DDO is still free-2-play, as is Neverwinter online. AQWORLDS is good, and I think AQ3D is open to regular play now. If you like Pokèmon,, I can recommend Pokèmmo, it's "free" you just need to install some ROMS, which you can find for download all over the place.

If you want a mobile game, I've been playing a lot of Dice Game, and if you want a PC game there is Counter Strike: Global Offensive. With cs:go the comp matches take around an hour, but there are plenty of community servers and other built in game modes that you can hop in and out of. Though I will say this, the community does have a lot of bad eggs, but if you are willing to look you can make many great friends.
