Any survival horror enthusiasts within the Dollars? Sadly it's a bit of a dying genre that's devolved into action horror but that doesn't mean it's not still worth discussing and reminiscing!

Are there any favorite survival horror games you have? Do you think they're the ideal survival horror game? What exactly makes a survival horror game? Those are just examples of things to think about~

RE has been devolving but i did enjoy RE4 a LOT
RE2 has to be my favourite in the series tho with RE1 close behind it for nostalgia's sake :P

But i enjoyed the fatal frame series, the siren games and silent hills the most. dead space 1 was also pretty good imo.

i recommend you watch trailers for Soma (amnesia with a sci fi twist) and Routine (dead space+doom 3+system shock).

I feel like I heard of Soma somewhere. Also I'm not sure if you know but there's this supposed survival horror game called Daylight that will be coming out sometime soon. I know it's going to be on the Ps4 but I'm not sure what other systems. Too bad I won't get a Ps4 for a while.

RE2 is a good choice. Though I wish it would get a remake not so much because it needs one but because it would be a good way to give some fan service to the old fans (For once) and introduce new people to the way Resident Evil used to be done.

Personally my favorite is Resident Evil REmake for the gamecube.

Ive heard of daylight! Cabin in the woods with your girlfriend when things go terribly wrong right?
the atmosphere seemed great in it! but i heard move controls were in it and that usu means the mechanics suffer a bit : (

i completely forgot about the remake! THATS what ALL remakes should be like. its more of a re imagining if anything.

Well I just checked and Daylight takes place in a hospital. I didn't hear anything about the move controls though hmm. I'll have to wait and see what happens with that when it gets released.

Regarding survival horror games I've played,

I've basically played every Resident Evil game except maybe Gaiden, the 2 gun survivor games, and some mobile games. (But I don't count RE4-current RE to be survival horror) Also Haunting Ground which I think is fantastic, Clock Tower 3 which I had difficulty with because of how punishing backtracking was and how relentless and tedious the stalker spawn was, Fatal Frame 1 and 2 but I haven't gotten 3 yet, Ib and Corpse Party, some Dino Crisis (Been a little too intimidated to play further), Lone Survivor, The Witch's House, Slender, 1916 Der Unbekannte Krieg, Which, The Midnight Man, Paranoiac, and some other RPG maker game but I can't remember the title.

Daylight is the procedurally generated one right?

ooh haunting ground was really fun.
but ive never seen anything else of clock tower.

i havent played any of the RPG maker games but i have seen playthroughs of quite a few of them (ib, ao oni, crooked man etc etc) and they look fun.

have you played call of cthulu? or eternal darkness?

I have not played either COC or ED but I watched a short Let's Play of COC. And I've glimpsed at Eternal Darkness and it seems cool~ I was thinking of getting it one day.

I've seen Let's Play too. Silent Hill and Resident Evil 2 were my first games for the Playstation. :)

Oh, also a heads up that Shinji Mikami's "The Evil Within" It comes out in the States in August 26 and Europe on the 28th. Looking forward to it

Unfortunately I haven't been able to play too many survival horror games recently, anyone know if there's any good survival horror for phones?

Yeah I'm looking forward to The Evil Within as well but I'm still on guard if it'll be survival horror or Resident Evil 4 again. I mean ever since Resident Evil Revelations, I don't really trust it when a developer flies the survival horror tag.

As for phone games...I'm not actually sure hmmmm....Anyone else know of any?

They need more games like the Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and more like the very first game of Resident Evil. I personally want to see Rebecca Chambers in another starring role, because it only makes sense, right? She survives the Mansion Incident back in Resident Evil 1, and why would Capcom strive so hard to prove that, if only to let her be 'forgotten' in the shadows.

Bring Rebecca back in a brand new Resident Evil that follows it's survival horror roots, not the horror-shooter shit that was Resident Evil 6. That's all I got to say.

Oh, and when I say the first Resident Evil, I meant the remake they did for the Gamecube. That was honestly one of my favorites besides Resident Evil 4 and 5.

I just want Resident Evil to become survival horror again. They half assed it with Revelations and that wasn't good enough. I will not be satisfied until then.

But in other news, there's rumor of a Dino Crisis reboot. The first game started off as pure survival horror (Basically an RE clone) and then became more action focused with the second game from what I've seen and remained action with 3. If there is a reboot I wonder if they'll go back to survival horror...
