This is definitely not the future of gaming, it is merely a small section of it. The future of gaming will be much wider and diverse, there will still be people that prefer consoles or prefer computer gaming.
>>5 The Oculus rift at least wont be something only the rich can afford, that is exactly why they are making it. They aren't a breakthrough as the first virtual reality headset, those have already been created; they are the first affordable virtual reality headset. The developer's packages (which are actually quite easily set up) are only 300 dollars, for instance. I was almost tempted to buy one but never quite got around to it.
On another note, has anybody else been following Valve's most recent announcements? They are going to be making their own free operating system that is based off Linux but runs in sync with Windows and Mac; their own console that can be run through multiple media devices; and their own controller which once again, can run with anything, even with games on computers that are not compatible with controllers (it tricks the game into thinking that it's a keyboard). If anybody is shaping the future of gaming, it's Valve. Not only are they making all that, they are also some of the biggest drivers behind the Oculus Rift, making all their games compatible with it. They have even redesigned Half Life 2 to be released as a promo alongside the Rift when it first comes out.
Shits getting cray.
