Project Phoenix is an indie JRPG in the beginning stages of development for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS/Android, PS4, and PSVita, with a tentaive release date of mid-2015. This indie title is a Kickstarter project that has just begun Kickstart funding, and has already achieved its minimum goal of $100,000 in less than a day. The game features an entirely original world with a mix of RTS and JRPG elements. It is meant to play like a classic JRPG, but made for the modern day gaming market, and it is intended to not only be the revival of the JRPG genre, but also to revolutionize it.

However, while the game is a JRPG, it is not being developed by any one studio. Instead, its members, who make up CIA(Creative Intelligence Arts, Inc.) are from all around world and who are touted as being AAA video game developers from both the east and west. One notable name on the team is Nobuo Uematsu, the famed composed for the first 10 games, and recently 14th game, in the Final Fantasy series, The Last Story, and Lost Odyssey. He has been named as the Lead Composer of the project. But while most of the talent comes from the gaming industry, with some people having worked on triple A titles such as Diablo III, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Halo 4, Crysis 3, and Tekken, some have also come from Hollywood, such as the man who responsible for the sounds in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, to the very head of the team who was involved in the production of Diablo III, Valkyria Chronicles, and anime titles such as The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Steins;Gate.

The game will feature realistically proportioned characters during normal gameplay and cinematics, and super-deformed characters for the combat which takes place in its own separate space that is tailored to the current area that you are in.

The Story: The world is changing...

The orcish clans, mankind's ancient enemy, have begun migrating from the mountains and their raids upon human settlements become more brazen and audacious by the day. If this wasn't enough, the denizens of the southern coastal regions hear rumor of the free men who, once vanquished, have emerged, more organized than before, all with the goal of toppling the Empire. Amidst the stirrings of war, the elves watch a fateful star and recognize it as a portent that will decide the fate of all those who live in Azuregard.

It is within these tumultumous times that the troubled paladin Marcus Stern encounters Ruffles, an angel stricken with amnesia. Together with the elven princess Sylrianah, reserved but curious to see the world beyond the forest, and Zarum the Lost, a battlemage with his own internal conflicts, they form an unlikely bond. These four heroes must discover their place in a world brought to war by misunderstanding and ignorance, and perhaps ultimately even save it from itself.

"Art that balances Western functionality with Japanese aesthetics!" - Taken from the Project Phoenix Kickstarter page.

While the game has reached its minimum funding goal, and as such will be made, it still has quite a way to go before it meets all of its stretch goals. The stretch goals are as follows:

$300,000 - Double the amount of character and monster models! Uematsu writes additional extended music.

$650,000 - Detailed city system (full modelling of the cities and towns). Customizeable character creation.

$1,025,000 - Fully explorable overworld complete with an upgraded combat transition. Fight INSIDE THE KRAKEN!

$1,650,000 - Two additional zones. Side stories. Eminence Symphony Orchestra x Nobuo Uematsu x John Kurlander Collaboration.

As of the moment of this writing, the game has received $185,977 in Kickstarter funding, with a little less than a month left to meet all of its stretch goals. After reading the entirety of the kickstarter page, watching the video, and listening to the music samples provided by Uematsu, and the video of the Emminence Symphony Orchestra, I feel that this game should be made to its fullest, so that it can be the game that the gaming industry needs. I have high hopes for this game, and while I can't honestly say it'll turn out exactly as envisioned, I have no doubt that this AAA team can pull it off. I'm putting this here 1) Because it is a game, so it belongs here. And 2) I know that there may be a lot of people who havn't heard about this project yet and who might be able to help fund this project to its stretch goals.

So what do all of you think about this game?

Here's the Kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300298569/project-phoenix-japans-indie-rpg-feat-aaa-talent

Oh, and before I forget, none of the money funding the project is going to the developers themselves. They are all VOLUNTEERING for this project. The funding is going towards paying for the animation, art, and as one of the stretch goals points out, the Emminence Symphony Orchestra, among other things.
