I've Been Making Games... (6)

1 Name: Smittyblack : 2012-10-23 23:19 ID:L9Etsxo0 [Del]

I've been making games for a while in Flash and Java and Python.
And I've recently been messing around in HTML5 which is a lot of fun.

But I need help.
I need writers and artists, and possibly programmers. If you're interested, email me at smittyblack2@gmail.com

There might be money involved, but I'm not sure yet. So, right now, there's no pay. But how cool would it be to make games?!

I'm interested in what progress you've made, though I probably can't honestly commit to any complex projects. I know Java and Flash's actionscript, but I've been meaning to look into the capabilities of HTML5 lately. What's your take on it, in comparison to the other three options?

I haven't used it very much, but I think it can do anything Java and Flash can do, and more. Not sure though.

And there's a program called Construct 2 that allows you to make HTML5 games without even needing to code, and you can make legitimate games with it.
Of course, you're limited if you use a code-free program like that. But they put a lot of events in the program so you can still do a lot.

People say HTML5 is the future of online games. I agree. I don't think there's anything Java or Flash can do that HTML5 can't.

And with Construct 2, anybody can make basic games. People who can't code can get their ideas out and then people with experience can help the people with good ideas.

So I love HTML5 and Construct 2.

I haven't made any HTML5 games yet, though.
I've been making a Pokemon-like game in Flash for Newgrounds. But it's nowhere near being finished. There's one cutscene and only a tiny bit of gameplay.

I really want to make some sort of medieval RPG. :U

I have some game ideas. Can you help me bring them to life?

You should really step into the world of Lua and C++ if you like to create video games.

>>3 I have heard about Construct 2 and tried it out. It reminded me of Game Maker, though its restrictive nature did bother me quite a bit. I suppose I'm better of learning HTML5 from scratch, even though I don't really have any large projects in mind as of yet.

I've really heard mixed reviews on the comparison between Flash and HTML5, though. Some say it will never match up to Flash's capabilities, but others say it doesn't really need to anyway. The latter is true for web applications, to an extent, but everyone seems to be jumping ship from that alone. It's silly to say one is completely superior to the other since they're completely different softwares with only one overlapping use - but that's a topic for another time.

King Dude has a point though; if you're interested in larger projects, languages like C++ give you more options. And since you know Java already, you're like halfway through learning it to begin with /o/
Although those sorts of games are ill-equipped (and unnecessarily complex) for simple browser games. I'm not sure which you want to do.
