I'm looking for good free games to either play online or downloaded that doesn't require an internet connection. The reason I'm starting this thread is cause I recently left the US and I'm in a foreign country that seems.. a little boring without as much friends to play games with due to my location and their sleeping hours :P

So I ask the good people here for titles that are fun to play. I will try any title you guys/ladies offer, no matter what genre, what rendering system, or rating.

Games I usually play or have played in the past include: Runescape (Haven't touched in about 2 years.), Maplestory, Minecraft, Different types of card games online, Any anime story based games, Portal 1&2, car games (NFS, GT5, MC LA, GTA), Shooters (COD, CS, Quake), and a couple small games found on usual sites.

I'm very open-minded when it comes to checking a game out or even completing it on my first try!

Note: I'm into scary games, and Slederman and Amnesia are on my completed list :3

If you like puzzle games, you might like Chip's Challenge. It's a relatively old game, but it's really fun. I can't post a link, but you should look it up.

There's Yume Nikki and Ib: Ib is beautiful, and although I have never played Yume Nikki, I have heard it's pretty good too.

But my real recommendation is for you to check games of genres you would never play otherwise. Try some Roguelikes, for example. Nethack may be the best roguelike ever, so try that one. I also like ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery).

I don't know if you like Shoot 'em ups, games where you scroll automatically and have to shoot enemies, like Space Invaders and Galaga. If you have never played them a lot, I recommend you to try some out. The japanese freeware develloper ABA Games has some great ones, like his game Tumiki Fighters. And you can also try Hydorah, which resembles R-type and Gradius.

Try some Interactive Fiction games, too. These games are the games where you simply read text and write text to play. This page is a nice guide:

Try Grief Syndrome. It's a little like the Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but with magical girls and really cool artwork.
