It's become apparent that it's about the time for a new generation of Xbox, the Xbox "720", as the Xbox 360's hardware is already 7 years old. But what kind of hardware improvement are you expecting? Faster CPU? Bigger GPU or RAM cache?

First things first, lets take a look at the Xbox 360's current hardware:

The Xbox 360 had a VERY nice hardware. But how can it be improved to meet our gaming needs to the fullest without putting a strain on our wallets?

I never liked Xbox. I won't say that it sucks though. It has power, but the only thing that makes it different from a PC is that it has its own game disc and you pay for the internet game play. First of all, that's dumb as shit. I hate Microsoft (of all companies) for making you pay for a connection on a connection you already have via their server... =/ I just think its a super scheme.

But it IS powerful. Xbox Darango (which is its code name atm) will be amazing but I will not be buying it. Hopefully someone gives it to me as a gift.

I thought I had heard something about Microsoft not seeing a sequel to the XBrick for the forseeable future. And, as usual, I'm too lazy to look it up.

But, if they did want to make a sequel, it would have to be pretty damn amazing. I think the only place Xbox could go would be the portable market; perhaps turn the next console into a laptop-like affair?

Personally, I'm more excited about a PS4, but I know it'll be a while before it comes out.

As for the 720, assuming that's its official name, I'm really not a fan of Microsoft's service... But my biggest worry is that it'll have one major problem like the 360 did with the red ring.

Besides, the only questions in the OP is "What kind of hardware are you expecting?" and suggestions for improvements, however this is the Xbox 720 thread, it entitles the poster to respond with their view on the subject, without getting flamed for no reason. Granted, there are obvious exceptions. But come on.

In any case, I have no idea what to expect, I'll just wait till features are shown to decide what I think of it. I might buy it, I might not. Who knows? Not me.

The current estimated release dates for both the Xbox 720 and PS4 are Holiday 2013. So says current rumors anyway. Rumors also say that the Xbox 720 will in some way lock out used games, support Blu-Ray, and be 6 times as powerful as the 360.

You do know the plan for the xbox 720 was shut down since the xbox 720 was suppose to be the new xbox 360 with kincet but Microsoft didn't sell it has the 720 because they might end up losing the money. Plus the logo was photoshop and placed online to make people think that it was coming out when it wasn't to cause this whole thing of the mythical Xbox 720 that has been said to come out like about three years ago

Here's my upgrades.

Change the RAM from 512MB to 4GBx2 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) (total of 8GB) (this is actually very cheap to buy retail, so it can be done without breaking the bank)

Upgrade the DVD Disk Drive to a Blue Ray Disk Drive 12X with a 4-5.8MB cache

Change USB 2.0 ports to USB 3.0 ports

Upgrade CPU to this or something like AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz (4.3GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4170FRGUBOX (has 2 x 2MB L2 cache and 8MB L3 cache)

(I picked AMD over Intel because AMD has the same or better performance for cheaper (this processor on New Egg is $139.99 whereas the Intel equivalent is $200+))

Keep the Hard Drive at 250GB (like what the slim has) or increase it to 500GB 7200rpm

Upgrade the Graphics Card to a 2-3GB cache 384-bit (I suggest either AMD or NVidia) with 1 HDMI port, 1 HD Component port, and 1 VGA port (for use with PC screens)

Upgrade motherboard to 2600MHz (or better) Hyper Transport and make it have AM3+ CPU socket to fit the AMD processor

Sound Card should have 24-bit digital audio, 192KHz sample rate, and 124 dB SNR. Has an Optical Audio port for 7.1 surround.

Need a source before I can believe that. To be honest, I would LOVE it if they went back to solid-state caartridges. Shitty optical drives are getting old. Even if they did cloud storage vs DVDs I'd be ok with it, but to be honest I'm hoping for something along the lines of an N64 cartridge. More reliable methinks.

The Xbox 360 is seven years old already and will be ten years old when the next generation will probably come out. Most game systems only last five years.
