The player controls the series' trademark hero, Link, in the land of Hyrule. Link sets out on a quest to stop Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo tribe, from obtaining the Triforce, a sacred relic that grants the wishes of its holder. Link travels through time and navigates various dungeons to awaken sages who have the power to seal Ganondorf away forever. Music plays an important role—to progress, the player must learn to play and perform several songs on an ocarina.
Ocarina of Time is an action-adventure game with role-playing and puzzle elements. The player controls Link from a third-person perspective, in a three-dimensional space. Link primarily fights with a sword and shield, but he can also use other weapons such as projectiles, bombs, and magic spells. The control scheme introduced techniques such as context-sensitive actions and a targeting system called "Z-targeting". In combat, Z-targeting allows the player to have Link focus and latch onto an enemy or other objects. (In the GameCube port of Ocarina of Time as well as the Wii's Virtual Console version, targeting is done with the L-button instead of the Z-button, due to the position of the Z-button on the GameCube controller and classic controller.) When using this technique, the camera follows the target and Link constantly faces it. Projectile attacks are automatically directed at the target and do not require manual aiming. Context-sensitive actions allow multiple tasks to be assigned to one button, simplifying the control scheme. The on-screen display shows what will happen when the button is pushed and changes depending on what the character is doing. For example, the same button that causes Link to push a box if he is standing next to it will have him climb on the box if the analog stick is pushed toward it. Much of the game is spent in battle, but some parts require the use of stealth. Exploration is another important aspect of gameplay; the player may notice inaccessible areas and return later to find them explorable after obtaining a new item.

Wait. You're telling me there wasn't a thread for OOT? Well, there was one for the 3DS version, but this is by far the better. I feel a little disappointed I didn't catch this first.
I've played the ever loving crap out of this game. I think my best play time was 5-6 hours? The first speed run record was just inder 5 if I recall.

I will always love this game. I haven't gotten all the golden skulltulas, but I will someday! This game, and not the earlier ones, believe it or not, is what got me into the Legend of Zelda series. It is the beginning of the legend for me.

My review on Ocarina of Time. :D Feel free to ignore.
Alright so here's the low down on Ocarina of Time.
Link wakes up to a screaming little bitch telling him that a giant ass tree wants to chat.
So Link is like "Ok cool" and goes to talk to said tree.
But then some punk ass mother fucker is like "NOPE"
"You can't leave without your bark and pregnancy test"
So you have to run into people's houses uninvited and fuck shit up.
Pulling money and organs out of jars and chests.
Then you buy your bark and have to find your pregnancy test.
You can now go to the depressed tree with two mustaches.
You go inside his mouth and kill a spider.
It doesn't save him, but the tree decided to risk your life before giving you the stone that will help you save the world.
You get the stone and leave to meet Zelda after running away from a green-haired elf.
Zelda says she dreams about you.
You want to leave but then that one little bitch screams until you go back to the elf you ran away from.
Who, by the way, doesn't bother to mention that you should write down the directions to her hide out for later.
You leave her, then travel half way up a mountain to watch some rock creature orgasm.
He gives you a bracelet for flower picking, and you go kill a fire lizard.
Bam. You have stone two.
Then you willingly go inside a whale and kick ass with a stuck up fish cunt on your head.
Now you have 3 stones and you go back to tell Zelda.
She repays you by nearly killing you with her horse, then throwing crap at you.
Retrieve what she threw and-
Duh nuh nuh nuuhhh!
-You have the Ocarina of Time.
Go inside a church and pass out for 7 years.
You wake up next to an old man and notice you are now wearing tights.
You know what that means?
You must go into 5 temples.
The first is the reason why you needed those directions.
Right, left, right, left, straight, left, right.
You get there and--NOPE!
Because you forgot to race the ghost first.
It doesn't matter how many times you do this.
You'll forget.
So you race the damn ghost who, despite his halo, is throwing fire at your face.
What kind of bullshit is that?!
CHEATER.
Now you go back to the elf's hide out.
After the Forest Temple, you go in a volcano to kill a dragon.
Then you go under a lake to kill.. water.
Then you go to the grave yard after this purple shadow thing beats the shit out of you.
You get magic slippers and kill a drummer.
Then you murder the fuck out of a lot of woman just so you can go through a desert to get to the Spirit Temple.
You get to kill these awesome twin witches who have the best theme song ever.
After that you go back to the castle which is now floating over lava.
You rape a wall until it glitches, and skip trials that are impossible anyway.
Go up the stairs and play a lil tennis with Ganondorf.
Who CHEATS.
LIGHTNING?!
FOUL
Then try and run down the collapsing castle without Zelda getting in your way.
Try not to get hit or she has to literally stop and take the time to gasp.
Which slows you down even more.
Just when you think you're out, you hear that dreaded
AAAAAAHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAHHHHdkjghdhgkhg!!1!
I thought this game was rated E!
Redeads are NOT child friendly!
Shit is almost as bad as Dead Hand.
Or Wallmaster.
Once out, you find out Ganondorf is really this goat demon, Ganon.
You slice his tail thing a lot, then he dies.
Yup.
Of all places, it's the tip of his tail.

I get a good sense of satisfaction out of opening and fixing my own controllers.
