This is a game I'm working on, and I wanted you, the BBS, to help with the development of it. We post ideas, images, music if you can create it, everything, on here, and I place it together.

Here is the basic story of it.

The name was called "Through the Glass of Time" in which was about the ability to control time. (Yeah, I can see. Time Travel.) It was a story in which told the players, the story of the "Time Masters" and their job of controlling and protecting the source of all of Time. That they are what make time flow, and are truly what preserve time. The Past, wouldn't be possible if it were not for them. That memories would not recollect any past experiences, of any kind, if they were not there to store that event in Time. That people would walk around, aimlessly towards the future, only doing that in which they thought of that moment, and then forget what they were doing after.

It tells the story of the "True Masters" of Time as well, in which are the original beings that created Time, and were the first beings corrupted by that over-whelming power, and how the "Time Master" that is living, telling the story, of how his pupil (becoming a Time Master, himself) stumbled upon their ruined city, to discover the last remaining, "True Master", and how he broke the seal, holding in the "True Master" and his power. That Pupil then succumbed to the "True Master's" desires and over all power, and was forced to FUSE into that being.

Thus creating a whole new "breed" of Master, who wants to actually absorb the true source of Time. Because something had to create them, in order to even control Time.

Also here is a screenshot of the first map I've made.

If you can pixel, I'd like a set of your versions of the character shown.

Once I got far enough in to fully understand the idea, I found I quite like this concept. Might I ask what you plan for gameplay and other mechanics? Because, at least from what I can gather, it sounds like there may be a way to add the Time Master's abilities into the gameplay system, and I'd like to know if you already came up with any ideas on that.

3 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-02-29 23:32 ID:FYvD7jiV [Del]

My plan, is to code in events, that check for your MAP ID and name, and based on that, your 'abilities' will allow you to travel forwards or backwards in time based on the area that you're in.

Say you're in a castle, in present time. The spell will warp you to either the future, in your area, or past, and allow you to talk around in that time zone.

I might also do spells that increase walking speed.

If you can control time, then you could walk faster then others, wouldn't you think?

this game sounds like an interesting idea. it's a shame i know nothing about coding anything :/

Walk around*

Well it's RPG Maker 2003. Not really CODING, per-say. It's more plug and play, but you've GOT to know what you're doing. You can make games a pro can make, with RPG Maker.

7 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-01 13:59 ID:FYvD7jiV [Del]

I made a Test-Teaser Trailer. As of now, no game play footage is shown, but it actually fits, with or without the game play footage.

Im definitely waiting to play this thiamor.

9 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-01 15:24 ID:FYvD7jiV [Del]

I'll at-least upload it so you can test out the first map, to see the cut scene and the little bit of game play.

Again, this is the type like Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, and Breath of Fire. In which the main character doesn't speak. Not where you see it. It's implied.

10 Name: Kumo!NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-03-01 16:02 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

>>6 So it's more of a plug-in type deal? would you care to elaborate a bit more, it might help me decide whether or not I'll be able to help and what i could be able to help with, should I decide that I had the time for it.

11 Name: Name !broNAMEpvE : 2012-03-01 16:08 ID:RxyM6k+U [Del]

Just from the pic in >>1, it looks like it's going to be amazing.

Well, in RPG Maker 2003, it has events.
These events are coded in, so if you use them, the scripting access it, turns it on and off when you need them.

Say you make an image and want it to appear. Say tree tops appear over your character. You upload the image, use the event tabs, to call the 'show picture' event. It'll show it when you test play.

13 Name: Kumo!NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-03-01 16:17 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

hmmm. sounds a bit more efficient. Game making is something that I am very interested in, but have not really had the time to look up or try to do or anything like that, so it'd be cool to do for me, but I would feel like i'd be slowing things down or like i'd be pestering you with questions.

14 Name: KingZeoX : 2012-03-01 18:19 ID:DhWS460R [Del]

>>3 Sounds pretty good. Kinda like the Dark World in A Link to the Past, or maybe more like the time travel in Sonic CD. Time travel games can be pretty fun if the mechanic is implemented right. I look forward to this one, and I can try to help out at some point in time if it's within my power. Sadly, my only real skill is story writing, so I won't really be all too useful unless you need an entire plotline written XD
I could probably help with subplots and such though.

Here is the download to the first testing of it.
It's a compressed file, so you need something that extracts .Izh files.

Winzip or whatever, should be able to handle it.

I got to fix it and RE-UPLOAD it. File won't work for you all.

New update. https://rapidshare.com/files/3058564531/Time.zip

When you open the game, hit F4 right away to make the screen smaller. So when you click New Game, it wont' crap out.

If you need it even smaller, hit F5 after hitting F4.

21 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-02 00:17 ID:FYvD7jiV [Del]

I think I'll make the battles...not traditional.

Instead, you fight the NPC's you see on the screen, right there. You go and hit them.

Also Spoiler Alert.

There will be a 'mini' sort of game in the Jail. Where you've got to break rocks in the morning. Each rock has like 10 points, you take 1-2 each hit. Also you've got a type of HP bar showing.

Each swing, takes a bit of HP off. Each time it gets low enough, you've got to run and drink water.

You've got a time limit, and you've got to BREAK at-least 3 rocks to be able to play the rest of the way. Any more, and you get special items.

Pretty cool, dude. If I have enough time and was able to make pixel art, I could make it in a day or two with Game Maker 8.0.

>pixel art
>use GAME MAKER

What

30 Name: Name !broNAMEpvE : 2012-03-02 21:05 ID:j0LVa0Xr [Del]

Game Maker 8.0: A great game making software, doesn't make pixel art well. I'd use Paint.net for that.

Pixel art: Making pictures one pixel at a time. Like how sprites are made.

So, that.

31 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-03-02 21:28 ID:YWJdTxmB [Del]

Gonna type up my thoughts on it as I play. Unabridged, unorganized.

Here we go :V
--------
Why is the beginning playing out like a movie trailer, sans the graphics? It's just a lot of floating words. Doesn't really hold meaning when there's nothing to relate it to, and it feels very detached.

Oh god I hope you're going to get someone to help you with the graphics later on, unless I'm about to see some ironically shitty content.

Oh good it gives me the option to not sit through that again.

Who's this angel faggot

I like how it's not proofread for grammar at all. From the start I've noticed maybe 5 errors already?

You know, this music is way more fitting than the random-ass action movie shit from the floating text part.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING TAKE SO LONG TO LOAD.

Was that Kefka's laugh
I'm mad at you for using it for such a trite scenario

This doesn't look remotely like a prison.

Well, I pressed Z on this lady but nothing happened, I guess I-
Oh wait, I'm frozen. That must mean TEXT IS LOADING.
Set your "Wait" function to a much briefer amount of time, or at least make something happen when it is paused. I keep thinking your game just broke.

Wow this bitch is assuming things way too fast
Does she want to get kicked in the teeth
You don't act all pompous and wise while in a cell with a prison inmate, you pretentious windbag

4 seconds. I counted that time. It took FOUR seconds for her to respond.
Oh I get it, I'm a silent protagonist.
If you're going to make the wait time the same length as it would've taken to produce real dialogue, I think you're missing the point.

>was the bread royalty
Wow. You should win an award for best screenplay writing.

THAT WAS AT LEAST 7 SECONDS.

Quick tip:
Silent protagonists are silent because they let the NPC's explain context for them. If you're going to give him a significant role in the conversation, and then just blot out everything he says, again, that's missing the point.
"Yeah, I'd say that makes some sense." So your character does have a personality, and things of worth to say - why leave it out? What makes sense, exactly? The more questions one has to ask that isn't actually pertinent to anything, the less focused the player is going to be on the actual plot.

...
...
Game over.
...
...
What, that's it?

That

literally looks like it took you 10 minutes, given the ease-of-access functionality of RPG Maker.
--------

Well, it's not like it's hopeless. It's just very bad. And before you tell me you're in the very early stages of the project, do keep in mind that you posted what amounted to:

-A terrible Windows Movie Maker style intro
-A guy talking about stuff
-The ability to walk and then talk to one NPC

This isn't a test of your game. It's a demonstration of maybe 3 basic functions of RPG maker - the sort of thing I'd see bundled in with the program itself, as a tutorial. Except this one also had convoluted plot thrown in with bad timing.

Your initial idea is interesting. Roll with it; develop it - figure shit out first before telling people it's a large scale project. At this point in time, it's still at the "droppable" phase - the point in time when a project is so underdeveloped, its creator could quit on it at any time without consequence. Right now it just looks like you came up with a basic idea, and then threw a premise onto a crappy thing in 10 minutes.

TL;DR Needs a lot of work, but it's not the worst I've seen.

32 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-03-02 21:32 ID:YWJdTxmB [Del]

>>30 I was referring to what you said.

You said "If I have enough time and was able to make pixel art, I could make it in a day or two with Game Maker 8.0."

That's like me going
"If I knew anything about composing, I would try to write a song for your game using only pots, pans, and an assortment of silverware."

I know what pixel art is - and your definition is wrong. It isn't making something "pixel by pixel" - how its made does not matter. It's usually referred to as sprite art, or low-res graphics made for either limited graphical capabilities, or simplicity and ease of animation frames.

33 Name: Name !broNAMEpvE : 2012-03-02 22:00 ID:j0LVa0Xr [Del]

>>32 Ok. And, I have been using Game Maker 8.0 for a while now. I'm sure I could get the gridded movement pretty easily. Same with the text. The text boxes, making it to where you can't move through walls and objects. What would take me a while is to actually put it all, since I am only one guy and can only make, about, one action every thirty minutes, unless it's just insanely simple, lick clicking something to add one point to your score, or something like that.

Game Maker 8.0 even has its own sprite creator, but the max pixel size of that is 32X32 pixels. Plus, I can't draw well, even if it is on a computer.

The only thing I can't do well at all at is getting something to follow another thing as it moves, unless they have a set path. I've tried to do that before, but they just went straight at it, not turning when you moved.

And, finally, the program would be one .exe file with the only other files being the save game files, saving some space on the computer.

It also doesn't require coding. Easy for people like me who don't feel like learning a programming language; however, it does allow code input for things you know how to do in codes, but can't figure out with the normal controls.

34 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-03-02 22:18 ID:YWJdTxmB [Del]

I don't understand. Who are you explaining all of this to, and why?

Thiamor's game is an RPG, and it's made using RPG Maker, not Game Maker. It doesn't require object interaction like you described at all, and if it's actually something you're trying to argue, Game Maker is not a proper substitute for spriting.

A misunderstanding you may be having is the thought that game aspects are interchangeable and importable to different programs - like taking an aspect of Game Maker and shoving it in RPG Maker. It doesn't work like that.

35 Name: Name !broNAMEpvE : 2012-03-02 23:14 ID:j0LVa0Xr [Del]

>>34 I'm just gonna say what's on my mind now:

I just randomly explain things, even if not needed, a lot.

You think it doesn't take object interaction? What about stopping when it touches another thing (i.e. wall, NPC), or pressing a button to get the action of talking or the bed's action of ending the game to happen? That's object interaction.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying Game Maker works for every type of game: RPG, 2D scroller, 3D shooter (with purchase), arcade, whatever.

I also know it's not a substitute for spriting. It has that option, though. I was just stating that.

I know this is disorganized, but that happens when I just write what's on my mind. It comes out in the order it comes to the front of my brain.

36 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-03-03 04:01 ID:YWJdTxmB [Del]

No, listen.

He doesn't need it, because RPG Maker already handles those functions on its own. Give me some credit - I understand how basic game coding works. Collision detection and object interaction isn't a far off concept in gaming - fucking pong uses it. But the way RPG Maker is structured takes care of that for you; objects are assigned as solid or passable, and object interaction is automated from there. And for a simple game like Thiamor is making, it doesn't need the more advanced functionality you'd find with custom scripting in GML.

Game Maker is just fine, but again, he's not using it, so it's irrelevant. This is also neither the time nor place to be discussing alternate software he could be using, but I do believe there was a thread in Technology discussing this sort of thing.

Here, sleep.

As you can see, that is how the ABS is.

As I said, though, soon the bars will not represent HP, but instead, Defense.

So when it takes away every bar, then they can start taking away from HP.

Sorry, at a friend's place, on his computer. I don't have access to the game, so once I get home, I'll upload it. Demo is already made.

40 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-22 20:10 ID:4jlksheK [Del]

This is the demo for the Arena fighting system.
There is a small error at the start, now.

When it gets to the winged person at the intro, keep hitting enter until it actually goes on. This will be fixed when I find out why it does it.

https://rapidshare.com/#!download|470p3|427388687|Time.zip|20919

Also, for the fight, when you get to the Demon Boss, if when you're attacking, and it stops you, run quickly back to the BACK of the statue to your top, left side.

If you're fast enough, it won't follow, and you can heal, and wait a bit.

Also it's not a glitch when the 3 first people you fight, dies when you kill any one of the 3. They are Doppelgangers. They are all connected to the same HP, but all 3 can still hurt you.

41 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-22 20:13 ID:4jlksheK [Del]

Crap. Forgot something.
When it loads up, hit F4. It's based on MY resolution. F4 makes the screen smaller.

I'll fix that on it's next release.

WARNING SPOILER HEAVY

You probably should edit the conversations to have a ... instead of just pauses. Makes it feel like the game mightve frozen.
After the tutorial battle, a warrior type n a ninja come out, but somehow to warrior magically turns into a ninja. Why? N after completing that n the guy saying "this is for you" a ninja appeared on the screen for a sec, and some red guy down below... which apparently turns out to be some super fast asshole.
For some reason after defeating the red guy my hp went from 5 to 1.
Why is there a rope and what Im assuming is fire behind the left statue? N why did it disappear after killing the red guy?
Also, the weapons dont really seem to do anything. All of them are a dash attack, and I died for no reason while dashing.. maybe because I hit a tree? I dont know..
The explosion seems unneeded.

45 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-23 22:34 ID:C8MAJyfL [Del]

The different weapons effect the over all strength you'll hit.
The fire is the red demon. The eventing places him there before it calls the script that spawns him in the front of the place.

I just have to make it NOT show the graphics of the red one till the scripting calls for it.

Also the pauses are there, to stop run on sentences.

Also the red one...hits really hard.

Also the explosion, is the thing that shows it hits. It's actually a 'blow'.

46 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-23 22:36 ID:C8MAJyfL [Del]

Also the "This is for you" part, is just basically a "You're fighting THIS guy next, ha!".

>>50 *le gasp* You hit Yatahaze?

52 Name: Thiamor : 2012-03-26 23:25 ID:nEcgZx3x [Del]

It's probably just a sort of lag, and eventing errors.
Newest version I'll release in a few weeks, should have it fixed.

Newest version will also have an updated HP/Defense Bar, along with a wider variety of weapons for you to test out, along with potion mixing.

I should also have part of the story added on in, as well. Such as, you'll actually get to play through part of the story, rather than sit there, testing updates on the same thing.

53 Name: Thiamor : 2012-03-26 23:26 ID:nEcgZx3x [Del]

But because of the soon to come updates, the final boss in the Arena, will be tougher.

It's invisible unless you keep charging. This makes it much harder to hit it.

54 Name: Roganu : 2012-03-27 10:40 ID:hdoexV1G [Del]

I was wondering if you could tell me what you used for the animation and graphics for the design part of the game?

55 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-03-27 11:31 ID:nEcgZx3x [Del]

Animation wise, nearly the RTP.

I can't remember the name of the sprites, though. I got to open it up and check. Why do you ask?
