I refuse to partake in the PS3 and 360 Emulators as the companies behind the consoles are still producing and making money from the games they sell for the consoles, and if you have thousands pf people ripping them off for $20-$60 a game, it effects the industry really badly.

oh, and the wii emulator too. not sure how the hell it would work, but its still pretty bad

But it's not ripping them off. They still pay the people who owns the right to it. They get a major royalty check for each game.

they don't just pay for it, and the companies who owns the game originally gets nothing. It doesn't work like that.

What probably happens, is that they get so much money, say each month, or a year or so, and whatever bit of payment they determined as their cut would be from total profit gained for each sale. They get quite a bit, and obviously AGREED on it, because otherwise it's very illegal.

>>3 You do know you can buy a legitimate copy to play on the emulator, right? All the emulator does is allow you to play it on your PC. Just put the file path to D: and insert the game man.

>>6 eh. i still dont think its cool to use current gen emulators like that, because they still do make the money for the consoles themselves, not only that, but i was in a more software state of mind. I'm totally open to old school emulation though

>>5 Again, i was more in a software state of mind, so i apologize if the followinf rant doesn't quite mean anything because we're not on the same page but...

i'm sure that everyone gets a set ammount of money off the...wait.
1)your explination on how they do not get ripped off makes no sense
2) how the fuck are they making money off of a game they aren't actually GETTING ANY MONEY FOR?

maybe the DEVELOPERS get checks from the companies for a set ammount and then it's the companies that get the extra money made from sales, in which case i wouldnt mind THEM being ripped off as much, but if they cut from how much they pay the DEVS due to sales, that blows, and if they dont get enough sales from the game, then the companies dont want to work with the devs again. any way you look at it, the devs get screwed.

Besides, do you know how SHIITY it feels when you work for YEARS on a project, just so that you can watch some asshole go and steal it (again. assuming that we are talking about game isos and not just consoles.)? I mean, with old school games, it's different. i'd wager that 99.9% all sales for old games go to the stores that sell them and not to the developers or companies that made them, sure in hindsight, helping out the businesses that are selling them would be cool, but they buy the games dirt cheap and then sell them for about the price of a used newer game. it's sort of like a scam. this being said, if i were an old school developer not making any money off of what i made, i would be like "hell yeah, people still want to download and play that game we made all those years ago" and then procede to have a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart.

You really don't understand the concept of Royalty at all. Nor do you understand that they are paying a licence to use these games on either a monthly, yearly basis.

The actual developers, the ones who have the rights to the game, are getting that money. No stores.

Sony or Xbox, or anything, isn't going to just up and emulate a game, and not pay for it. They are too big to get away with it. So they HAVE to pay money for being able to even emulate certain games.

It's highly doubtful they are getting ripped off. It's more like people like Sony are, for paying so much to do it.

They get quite a bit of money from them to be able to do so.

>>9 yes, they pay to own the license for certain series/titles from the companies that put them on their consoles, but they wouldnt pay the developers the money to emulate the god damn game if they were not also going to turn a pretty penny. if they do not make their money back, then they will not want to have anything to do with the series or developers anymore because "they make shitty games". besides, dont the companies' contracts from developer to developer differ from one another? what works for some devs does not work for others, and i am sure that there are some that choose to have a portion of the games' sales go back to the studio that made the game. And i only bring up stores with old games. stores don't give a fuck what game comes into their store. they re'sell it, i doubt they give any money back to the companies or studios because they already turned their profit for the game, because at some point in time it was sold by another store. AKA, stores are the only ones that really make money from the sales of old games that you can now ONLY find if they were traded in.

not only that, but in a lot of cases, the developers go to the producers of the games and pitch their game idea. the producer then gives them money to actually develope the game. upon the game's completion, the developing studio must pay that loan back in addition to whatever contract they have with the producers. Saying Developers dont get ripped off at all is ridiculous. it's just common sense "we make a product" "we have to use third party to get product out" "third party expects money for getting it out." "people steal our product, we dont get money, we get ripped off".

>>11 guys. my laptop connected to my tv makes my tv an arcade machine when i play the emulator M2Emulator. its a SEGA Model 2 emulator based on arcade machines. it really runs fast except this only goes out to the people who have windows 7 only. will not run on XP. remember that. its known as nebula as the main name. also YOU FORGOT ABOUT SSF(Saturn. requires magic disc to run CUE files from the game.),KEGA FUSION(an all SEGA emulator ranging between master system to Sega CD/Genesis/32X etc. and NULLDC(Dreamcast.) gamecube runs excellent when you play bleach or sonic R from sonic gems or DBZ Budokai 1 or 2. PSX runs on my sidekick 4G fast. (Not all games.)
