I was looking through the threads and didn't find one on this game, though if I am mistaken I apologize.
I figured this game could use a mention as the sequel is coming in about a week (Feb. 7). This thread can be used for both fan commentary of the first game as well as talk for the second game.
So, here goes:
The Darkness is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 2K Games for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It was released on June 25, 2007 in North America and on June 20, 2007 in Europe. The video game is based on the comic book of the same title. A sequel, titled The Darkness II was announced and slated for release on February 7, 2012.
The player takes on the role of Jackie Estacado, the adopted son of a high ranking Italian mafia crime family. Players of the game see developments of the story through Jackie's eyes as he unlocks a latent power that has been passed down through his biological family for generations, simply known as, the Darkness.
The Darkness itself is some great, unholy power straight from the depths of hell. It enables Jackie to use a wide array of abilities, from summoning the minions of darkness to creating black holes, in order to take down the family that has turned against him.
Combining some fast paced first person shooter action with some very creative combat mechanics, The Darkness is certainly a game worth playing if you love, not only the FPS genre, but story driven games.
That and if you like to rip people's hearts out. Thats always a plus.
