Wat. No Silent Hill? What is this?

Silent Hill is a series of survival horror videogames that originated on the PS1. The first (released, not chronologically) follows Harry Mason as he searches for his adopted daughter Cheryl. He has no fighting experience, and has to survive in a twisted town in order to get his daughter back; but the longer he stays, more and more of the disturbing history of Silent Hill gets revealed, leaving Harry to wonder, is this town crazy? Or is it him?

Each of the games also contain a wacky ending and some really crazy unlockables, such as Magical Girl Heather, and her Heather Beam in the 3rd.

There's also a movie, and the second movie, set to follow Heather Mason from the 3rd game is scheduled for release in 2012. (I'm assuming that since the movie is set to be released in October/November in Belgium and the Netherlands respectively; it will be released to the US before then.)

Have you ever played one? They're much more terrifying first-hand.

I'm unhealthily addicted to this series. Played every one of them, can't get enough.

>>6 I've only played Origins and 1 so far. I have 2, but I don't want to play it until I finish the prequel and first in order (since it's chronological) and maybe the 3rd before the 2nd since it's a direct sequel to the first and all. -gah, confusing-

>>7 I've never played Resident Evil, but I did alot of research. If you want pure terror, go with Silent Hill because it's the package deal in terms of scary (scary atmosphere, terrifying monsters, horrifying music, the entire setting is scary, and you can relate to the characters) while Resident Evil is supposedly mostly jump scary; like it startles you because things jump out. I'm probably infuriating RE fans since I've never played it but thats what I got out of dozens of reviews for both games.

>>8 huh. Never thought to watch it online :O
Takes out alot of the terror though. I can't imagine it as terrifying as playing it firsthand, ya'know?

played all of them, the one i didnt like was 4, it made no sence, got all endings in 1-3, origins, and shattered memories (silent hill 2 was my favorite xD)

My favorites are 2 and Homecoming. 2 because it introduces my favorite video game character of all time, and Homecoming because it's sadistic at times.

>>9 hmmm. Resident evil is pretty much only jump scary. being a RE fan, i'll admit that, but i still love the games. i'll think of picking up a SH game now, thanks
