The system is called HDL, or Half Die Level. When rolling stat checks or skills, you double the number of the stat and roll the lowest number of dice to equal that result. It sounds complicated when explaining it but in practice it's really very easy. 1=d2, 2=d4, 5=d10, 6=d12, 7=d6+d8, 10=2d10 (d20 is never used), and so on. Paragon is the Second Edition of the HDL rule set.
The system also has a large array of backgrounds and weaknesses to make your character a more complete person, as well as a mind-bogglingly realistic set of possible skills. It's a very realistic game.

As for expensiveness, yeah. It's printed on demand. That is a very expensive service. If you're really concerned about that, you could get the PDF which is $20. Also check out LUCID: Dreamscape Reality. That was recently updated for this edition of the game.

I just got done with a great session of one of the in-beta supplements for this game, called Demongate High. I highly recommend that people who are wanting a new game to try out check this system. It's really an innovative system that just has so much to offer.

I joined a group at my school, and it's a great system for getting into character. Our DM set up a pretty cool scenario to get us all into Demongate High, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

as for yoichi, that's actually an interesting question because i'm beta testing the game with the creator as our narrator. His name is sean boyle and he works at my university as a professor. He's a really interesting guy.
