>>38 Like any game, the chat would have to be handled in such a way that spammers/botters weren't 90% of the text. The Digimon MMO is terrible like that - go into the starter towns and all you see in your chat box is spamming and advertising. Eden Eternal has a restrictive but perfectly workable chat system - players can talk in local and zone, but they have to be level... 30 I think in order to send mail and talk in world chat. Given that getting to 30 takes a matter of days it's not that bad, but it surprised me when I was playing on my mouse character (MasterMickey :P)
I've already begun plotting for the MMO, actually. Mostly I've been contemplating what worlds and what sort of gameply (KH1 or KH2-styled locales, for example). There should of course be the option to play as different races - while the vast majority of Keyblade Masters are human, there are of course dogs and ducks running about. Those races will need different starting areas and so I've been thinking about that as well. I was thinking that for the humans, there could be one or two starting areas - Destiny Islands and Twilight Town. For the Disney races, their starting area could of course be Disney Castle, or perhaps another Disney world that I'm not familiar with.
The plot of the starting area: The player character is just a kid/teen/person going about. Here the players are introduced to the questing system by performing simple fetch/elimination quests - get x number of items from the rats or badgers or whatever that's roaming around outside town/on the islands (pretty much like every other game, really). This would also serve as a combat tutorial. As the player advances along the story quests, bits of the area that are infested with Heartless open up and the story reveals that Heartless are, of course, coming onto the world. This is when Sora shows up to combat them and, seeing that our player character has a strong heart, he whisks him/her off to the main hub world - Radiant Garden. There is where players get to choose their Keyblade Master/class and the advanced combat mechanics like magic and skills come into play, and players are then free to start exploring worlds and... stuff.
I'm still thinking about world bosses and how they should be handled. I'm leaning towards having them contained in their own instances that players under a certain level can't accidentally wander into. This would allow for players to beat the bosses over again and allow for players to not get smashed by the boss before they're ready.
Just a few notes for thought. I'm really really really interested in seeing this MMO thing come about.
