Tales of Symphonia is my favorite game for the Gamecube. Anyone in the Dollars a fan?

Yup yup, Symphonia was my first Tales game. I like the gameplay mechanics of Tales of the Abyss better, but Symphonia is probably still my favorite out of nostalgia. I liked the affection system + ending variations, those seem to be unique to this iteration of the series. Unless there was an older Tales game that did that. Always have to go with the Zelos ending ftw!

Did you ever play the second one?

Ah, no I didn't. I was kinda put off by new characters being the focus and it using some sort of a monster capturing/battling system rather than actual party members, with the main characters of the first game only being temporary guests in the party. That was my impression anyway, didn't look too much into it. Just didn't pique my interest for whatever reason. I might rent it eventually.

The main character's an idiot unless he's voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch.

Symphonia was my first tales game too, though I haven't gotten the chance to play any others.

The second one is a spinoff though, not a sequel; it was released to see how well a sequel would be accepted. I haven't played it yet though, mostly because (I'm not sure why) but I can't stand Emil for some reason. And I don't like how all the voices got changed except for one or two of the returning characters (really unnecessary), and what I did see (clips on youtube) they really didn't connect it to the first one well. Spinoff or not, you think they'd at least connect it better to the first one better, especially with how tightly knit the story in the first Symphonia was.

Like I said, Emil is an idiot. Symphonia's my favorite tales of. Dawn of the New World's fun, but nothing compared to the first. And the new voices aren't THAT bad. Except Lloyd's since his first one was so memorable.

No, I'm not letting this thread off the board yet!

This game is the entire reason I own a Wii. I was dumb enough to sell my Gamecube AND everything with it. /headdesk

But, I loved this game. Perfect storyline, excellently well paced, unique and quirky characters, amazing combat layout, awesome banter/dialog. The perfect game IMO, though Tales2 could have been infinitely better.

>>9 Same. I don't play any of my Wii games but I can't bear to part with it because of Symphonia. I haven't gotten around to replaying it but I know I'll want to someday - it was my first Tales game, after all. The only thing that'll be weird is the lack of free run. After playing all of the recent games I know I'll be annoyed by not being able to run around.

Out of the entire series, Genis has my favorite Mystic Arte. "I'll show you your powerlessness!" indeed. It made me mad when they gave him Indignation not only as a regular spell, but as his Mystic Arte in the second game. So much anger.
