14 Name: Reaper !UUx7pe6l6. : 2012-04-10 15:22 ID:o5VnlxCP [Del]

This is when I was a wee lad, so don't laugh.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. It was when you get the Sun's Song in the grave. A rounded a corner only to hear a Redead scream and latch on to me. Scary shit man...

15 Name: Zero : 2012-04-10 15:26 ID:kF5l6uFz [Del]

Not many games scare me... AT ALL....

But I would say Bioshock 2, when you're in a dark hotel underwater and then all of a sudden some crazed fucking maniac attacks you out of nowhere... you wanna scream. But mostly it;s when you get jumped by something.

16 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-13 09:25 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

>>5 well, no survival horror games really have screamers, they just put you into a really stressful position and try to make you afraid of what you may be facing next.

That said, i have played SH 1 and just got the SH collection for PS3 and have just recently beaten SH2, and I have noticed that the sound in the games are meant to fuck with you. It was an overall stressful (and therefore scary) game to play.

Fucking Pyramid Head...

17 Name: Izaya : 2012-04-13 09:48 ID:19caknlS [Del]

Oddly I play all those horror games and I'm not scarred because I expect it, though the only game that made me scarred to play it was, (and don't laugh I was 7 when I was playing this) The star wars first person shooter for the PS1 its graphics sucked but I was young and scared, and I use to be scared of the metroid prime game when I was like 10, though not anymore, I was going to go back and finish it, but I lost the game.

18 Name: Doremo : 2012-04-13 12:40 ID:fh9sI4y+ [Del]

As stupid as it sounds, when I was younger I was scared of the heartless in Kingdom Hearts, before you meet Donald and Goofy.

I was also scared of the Redead and Wall Masters in Ocarina of Time

19 Name: The Chosen One : 2012-04-13 13:16 ID:LlWz6Jbf [Del]

@deremo Lol..
I was scared of F.E.A.R and Silent hill...and some parts of black ops ...

20 Name: LordAce1213 : 2012-04-13 13:54 ID:43ubVoqy [Del]

Corpse party on my PSP hands down, there isn't a lot of things that can scare me put playing that at 1 in the morning with the headphones in, and no lights on? I was actually a little afraid to go to bed that night...and that week.

When i was a kid though the lavender town tower in the old pokemon games scared me big time.

21 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-13 15:39 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

>>18 i forget specific names, but I assume that's the monsters in the dungeon with all the zombies and creepy ass graphic designs, like the severed hands that would come up and warp you away right? if so, i can sort of relate to that.

22 Name: King Dude !zXqFpoplY6 : 2012-04-13 17:20 ID:2EpqH/Ds [Del]

DOOM. Both original and 3. Dead Space was a little creepy too.

23 Name: ScaryWitch98 : 2012-04-13 23:38 ID:XJcFbgPj [Del]

Mine is Slatter House. It was frickin scary and awsome at the same time. You should try the game you'll probably injoy it.

24 Name: PainKiller : 2012-04-14 21:24 ID:sUr9pGgD [Del]

There were only three games that I was and am truely horrified to even touch the controller for, let alone play. It's Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Silent Hill 2, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia and Silent Hill are pretty scary games, and I believe all of you can agree to that at least to an extant.
However, I think my reason for Majora's Mask goes into a more deeper level. You have three days trying to save the entire world from an unknown and truely evil force, more demonic and malicious than Ganon or anything else you've faced. To do this, you've got to help these poor people who's been faced with a terrible fate, like you did when you ventured into town. You do your best to save them and learn of their terrible fates, and try to heal them with music. You're doing your best to save everyone and everything, but it ultimately does not matter. Because before the third day ends, you have to revert back into the same day. You become stronger, wiser and more prepared for the coming battle, but nothing's changed. The people you saved before just goes back into their initial catastrophe of a destiny. You've saved everyone, only to see that they go back.... again, and again and AGAIN.
What I'm trying to say is that Majora's mask truely hits my heart with sorrow and fear to a deeper level.

Luigi's mansion :I
lol I was so scared the ghosts were gonna come out the tv and kill me.
Granted I played it like right after I watched Jeepers Creepers and I was 7 at the time, but still xD

Silent Hill though. Like, playing that in the dark with headphones? You'll die.

32 Name: Swift : 2012-04-17 13:24 ID:p3tq7R33 [Del]

Silent Hill + Amnesia + Dead Space 1 & 2 in one night? Scary as all fucking Hell. I finished Dead Space and 2 Silent Hills, but couldn't finish the rest. ;_;

33 Name: The Doctor : 2012-04-17 15:29 ID:6zFLRkQj [Del]

Fatal Frame 2: the Crimson Butterfly
The way they just set the atmosphere, with the music was brilliant. The different stories of the different generations made the ghosts creepy as anything, one had a twin doll, one ghost would hide in the crawl spaces... shit! that game grabbed me by the balls!

34 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-17 15:59 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

like 90% through with Silent Hill 3. Fuck the amusement park. That said, i suppose that like in >>24 (though i do not think his reasons make the game terrifying, just depressing) i would like to go more in depth as to why silent hill is a genuinely creepy series. It's not explicitly said or even implied for more than a few monsters (i.e Pyramid Head and Abstract Daddy (doorman)) but every single monster within the series is essentially a demonic manifestation of the mental and emotional weaknesses and phobias of the people within the town, Pyramid Head is the main character's anger, frustration, and almost masochistic need to punish himself for the sins he committed prior to the game, Abstract Daddy is Angela's trauma after being sexually abused by her father constantly, the mannequins are the sexual frustration of the main character after his wife's prolonged sickness and eventual death, the first boss in Silent Hill 1 is an imaginary monster created by Allessa based off of a fairy-tale monster that she wished would come and protect her from the other children who bullied her when she went to go cry in the boiler room, one of her only shelters from the other kids, and speaking of that, the grey children (only found in the American version due to censorship everywhere else) resemble children or babies with knives because that's her interpretation of the kids that would constantly make fun of and hit her.

It's this concept that makes the series as a whole very appealing, yet creepy in my opinion. The fact that these are not random monsters, but rather almost your worst fears or own sins come to life in order to kill you. it really stops you and makes you think about everything.

35 Name: Doremo : 2012-04-17 19:23 ID:fh9sI4y+ [Del]

>>34 Damn... my friend wants me to do a Let's Play with him on SH2 and while I like depressing games, I hate horror games. What I'm asking is what's your opinion on the horror factor in SH2

36 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-18 00:01 ID:9177hRkI [Del]

>>35 personally, i don't really get scared by horror games, as i stated, they mearly put you into a stressful "how the fuck am i going to do this?!?" position. regardless, i still enjoy them. SH2 was pretty damn stressful, mostly because you knew what MIGHT be out there, waiting to shove a huge sword up your ass, but what i found the most engaging was the story. it makes absolutely no god damn sense right up until the last 20 minutes of the game. from that point on, everything begins to click and you have the biggest "oh fuck!" epiphany moment ever had, but beyond that, even when you know what happened, the game leaves your mind to ponder "did event x happen because of this, or that?" "is the main character full of shit? is he telling the truth? does he not even know himself? is he really unsure of what happened, or is he just leading us on?" overall, an enjoyable experience everyone must have at least once.

37 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-18 00:03 ID:9177hRkI [Del]

to sum it up, i guess what i am trying to say is this: according to the standard of "horror", yes, SH2 is damned scary, but even then you should stick it out for the story and the experience.

38 Name: TallFry : 2012-04-18 02:00 ID:VMRXfbMw [Del]

Interestingly enough, the game that first scared the shit out of me was the first game in the Metroid Prime trilogy. I know, "how can a Nintendo game scare you?" It's pretty simple actually. You see, I saw the enemy known as the Chozo Ghost, and I thought to myself... "How horrible must the Space Pirates be if they come to a planet and bring back spirits of the dead, take away their sanity, and make them attack the one they love the most out of anyone else in the universe?" Just the thought of their brutal deaths and how they were forced to fight even their savior against their will just gave me nightmares.

Another game, believe it or not in the same series, Metroid Fusion, really scared me simply with the sense of dread you face when you're about to engage in a hopeless yet unavoidable confrontation with none other than yourself... Just sitting there in morph ball mode... hearing its footsteps right under me... knowing it could kill me instantly... it scared the shit outta me for sure.

39 Name: bcrobert : 2012-04-18 05:32 ID:e9vjQZJ7 [Del]

Metroid Prime weirdly scared me too. I'm not very good at shooters, so starting in an enemy-free zone made me unbelievably paranoid.

40 Name: Little Black Raincloud : 2012-04-18 06:51 ID:aoYpPXjm [Del]

I can't remember the game name, but the gameplay would have effects that were horrifying because they utilized the 4th wall. Randomly, it would show your volume bar increase, or it would look like the channel changed and there was nothing but static. It didn't fuck with your actual tv, but it was the scariest shit ever.

41 Name: Kumo !NC09qbtR1Q : 2012-04-18 09:26 ID:2W2s3DhZ [Del]

>>40 i never played that game, but i know what you're talking about. it's like...eternal darkness...or something...

wow, i was right Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

This game is now renamed something else. with a less scary VHS. but the old one. scared the crap out of me when i was growing up. it wasn't so much the game. but the VHS audio was just awesome spooky and the guy would burst out of no where. (better played with a sweet surround sound setup.)

56 Name: xobybr : 2012-04-28 12:06 ID:U9eUeyZe [Del]

Recently ive been playing Fatal Frame. It is one of the scariest games i have ever played. Especially when playing it at 9-10pm in a pitch dark room while home alone. They are amazing games though.

57 Name: rolling girl : 2012-04-28 12:37 ID:7cc1Gu1h [Del]

S.E.P. & Nightmare House (both 1 & 2)

58 Name: Riku-chan : 2012-04-29 17:22 ID:nOa1WhAH [Del]

Amnesia of course. As a young kid, though, I was terrified of the Lethal Lava Land level in Super Mario 64. Mostly the eye. That thing watched you. But yeah, now the only games that really scare me are Amnesia and Ao Oni (and HetaOni but...yeah that's not really a *game* 'cause it's fanmade)

59 Name: rolling girl : 2012-04-29 21:05 ID:7cc1Gu1h [Del]

>>58 Oh god I've played Amnesia, shit was kind of scary, but I had already watched this hilarious 'walk-through' sort of video series, so I couldn't take it seriously xD.

F.E.A.R. man. that lil girl is just too much

63 Name: Masada-san : 2012-11-30 16:40 ID:3FdaOq6Z [Del]

>>60 Marble Hornets was much scarier than Slender, but that's because it's a video series while Slender's a really Meh game designed to give mainstream gamers a nightmare.

Scariest games I've ever played Hands Down were Yume Nikki, LSD Dream Emulator, and on a minor scale, Afraid of Monsters. Yume Nikki just because of it's hidden Rape innuendo depending on how you interpret it, LSD because nothing at all made any sense and because of the lowered graphic details, and AoM because of how much damage enemies could take, forcing you to ration your weapons and make smart moves.

Personally, I think the lower the graphic detail, the scarier a game gets. You can say Dead Space boasted a scary environment AND great graphics, it didn't scare me in the slightest. LSD however had subpar graphics even for a PS1 game, but used the first person elements, psychedelic music, and random NPCs popping out of nowhere to its advantage.

Not a lot of games scare me, to be completely honest. However, there are a few gems that made me want to run for cover. Slender being one of them... damn prick comes out of nowhere right when I'm about to get the last note! DX Another game that made me jump a bit was Silent Hill 2. Don't ask me why just something about the second Silent Hill game that makes me kinda jumpy. XP

71 Name: xobybr : 2013-01-25 11:06 ID:U9eUeyZe [Del]

Fatal Frame
Slender
Corpse Party (Blood Covered and book of Shadows)
and sometimes Bioshock

72 Name: HaganaiKurai : 2013-01-25 12:18 ID:jEDnSofp [Del]

In all honesty, when I had to do the shadow temple in LoZ: OoT, that shit was scary... XD but Slender and Amnesia are scary games too... but i don't get scared unless something is actually happening to me. Otherwise its just surprise more than scare.

73 Name: Alaois : 2013-01-26 06:49 ID:5t8zsrkN [Del]

Silent Hill 2
Slender
Dead Space 2
And the game that I still refuse to play due to my experience as a 5 year old child... Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I can't play this game, I get too scared when the Nemesis shows up, all because I watched my big sister play it when I was 5 and I had to run to my mum when he showed up and tentacle stabbed Brad in the back of the head... Had nightmares for weeks after that

75 Name: Billy J : 2013-07-18 17:57 ID:ffKyUTd3 [Del]

81 Name: jill : 2015-08-24 04:31 ID:13/Q4Ihv [Del]

Everyone seems to know F.E.A.R except me, I'll try playing it later

Anyway, Here's the list:
Hotel 626 (where everywhere you look has something scary)
Corspe Party (Don't touch the ghost or you'll die)
Slender Man (Running away from a faceless man that will hunt you in your dreams, that's probably real cause he's been recorded in the history)
Five Nights of Freddies (Its not really scary though but it just palpitate my heařt when they suddenly appear

82 Name: Siren !SzqYl/82/w : 2015-08-24 05:08 ID:Ct3eNmCC [Del]

Recently I liked The Evil Within, but that might be a bit more surreal than scary. Then again, the spider bitch was very scary.

83 Name: Enigami : 2015-08-24 07:00 ID:uss/niTM [Del]

No one game in particular has scared me. Really I only get frightened when, in a non-horror game, enemies pop outta nowhere. I'm not expecting it to happen in these games, so I let my guard down.

84 Name: MacTire : 2015-08-24 09:00 ID:vfH9+mDx [Del]

Well, I did get startled an awful lot when playing Alien Isolation, especially the Nostromo DLC of it.

85 Name: Fray !W1Nq.7lGn2 : 2015-08-25 00:50 ID:kV7DvkbQ [Del]

When I was little I had an old playstation, and was really into the Rugrats(if anyone remember that show). Now I distinctly remember a rugrats game for the playstation that I had which we had bought for like 5 bucks at a flea market. You'd think that a game about a show about funny talking babies would be probably the least scary thing ever right?

The thought personally never crossed my mind.

That is until you get levels where you're in a dark creepy basement being chased by some freaky robotic toy that just stares at you blankly if you look at it, where you're abducted by aliens and have to escape their eerily medical looking UFO, and you go into your dog's doghouse and enter a surreal land of just what.
Combine that with the graphics of the original playstation and my crappy box TV with a shit resolution and you get an experience that to this day no actual horror game has been able to compete with in my mind.

Best part is I didn't realize how messed up it was until I played years after I got it and had moved on to Halo and COD on my 360.

86 Name: The Protagonist : 2015-08-26 19:15 ID:dNc7b5YJ [Del]

I haven't played much horror games....yet but from what I've played Amnesia the dark descent as many of you said, but the scariest thing I've ever played has to be Dungeon nightmares 2 with spooky's house of jumpscares coming in 2nd.
