It's pretty hard to think of a game I actually hate, maybe I just haven't played enough to get to that point.

I can think of one that I found terribly uninteresting though, namely The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind. It's a role playing game and it was made to be open ended so one could explore the world and just play however they wanted. Unfortunately for me that ended up being boring and uneventful. The gameplay was unpleasant, the NPCs all looked the same and had nothing interesting to say and the kind-of main quest was ultimately anticlimactic.

There are other people out there that liked it but for me it was pretty much just a waste of time. /end rant

that's interesting. I found morrowind very entertaining. It was a lot more interesting than oblivion, really.
but TES are aimed at people that want a LOT of options and open worlds, so I guess if that's not your thing it makes sense...

anyways, on topic: Secret of Evermore. That game made me die a little inside.

I kind of agree with bang. Im not big into games with way too much options. Fallout was the same. I liked it but it got boring sooner or later.

As far as a game I opinionaly don't like is sonic. I just don't understand the concept of rolling and collecting coins. It was pretty dull when I played it. I think I was probably doing something wrong but I found any sonic just offly boring.

final fantasy irks me something fierce. people parade it around like its the best of the best, when all it has to offer is bottom tier storytelling, extremely flat characters and usually bad battle systems. i have no idea why this game is so damn popular.
>>4 i never really got into sonic either, but thats probably the fanbases fault for making it seem so furry-rific

When final fantasy first came out, the story was blatantly different from the other games of it's time. It was created, as the name implies, as the creator's Final Fantasy. His last attempt to make a game that sold - all his other creations had failed miserably.

He accidentally hit upon a successful formula. Get crystals - Save world. They kept that, then started adding trademarks. Moogles, chocobos, etc.

At this point, Final Fantasy is a game for the ages in the same way that classic literature is reading the ages. As we build experience, it becomes less and less amazing to us - However, Final Fantasy isn't being created to appease it's fans. You can argue that each new release is to grab the next generation of gamer who has yet to amass the experience to compare it to.

Winning formula is winning. The result speak for themselves - It is bladder bustingly popular, even with what can sometimes be called a terrible storyline or gameplay. Not because it's new or innovative, but because it's aiming for a crowd that doesn't know any better and will forever relate it to nostalgia.

On that note, FF:T/FFVI are the best ever.

And games I don't like... I have to say sports games. Not only do I dislike them, I don't understand their fanbase. The people who tend to like sports enough to play the game... are people who would be playing the game - Or outside in general.

Each new addition to the sport game franchise is almost literally the same game, maybe with different controls, and the same jerseys with different stats. At least with the terribly generic final fantasies you're getting awesome new animations and aesthetic differences... In sports games you're running the same plays, with the same teams...

I don't understand it.

FFT has my favorite story out of any FF game ever. It's hard to claim anything in the story was lacking. Certainly doesn't have flat characters.
aside from that, my favorite is FFIV.

as for sports games, I think they should release one new game for each console and release new rosters as DLC. but they'd never do that. even if it was better for the community, it's worse for their wallets.

>>3 Hmm I've been giving playing Oblivion some thought lately since it seems to be generally regarded as being better than Morrowind (gamespot rates it real high too). But if it's the same type of game maybe I won't like it either.

oblivion has better gameplay/graphics, but morrowind is better IMO and as far as I've heard most people's opinions.

I would agree with you there if it wasn't for the dodgy hitboxes on various creatures, egregiously on the flying enemies. That simply broke the game for me, being unable to hit a cave racer with a longsword when it's right above me, but being able to hit it fine from a good two characters distance above it.
My other bugbear was persuasion - no matter my skill and stats I constantly failed on a regular basis. Even Oblivion's gimmicky minigame was able to make sure I didn't piss off everyone important.
If those were fixed, then I would agree that Morrowind was the better game, but currently I prefer Oblivion.

and that's why the PC version is the best.

graphics overhauls, bug fixes, and anything else you can think of :3
<3 the modder community for that game.
