A thread for movies based on video games. With 2 of the biggest video game mascots getting a film in 2022, you could use this thread to discuss them and review previous game based movies. While not the best academically, they mostly fill that in with fun scenes and writing

Based on real video games or does stuff like SAO count? Because if the latter, the movie Free Guy was really good. The acting is good, the suspense is good, the humor and digital stuff is really good. The romance was quite cute as well.

For stuff based on real video games, I heard the Monster Hunter movie was terrible, but I still might watch it... Haha

Most games to movie "adaptation" usually are bad due to the director/s own misunderstanding and vision of the franchise they are trying to recreate and sometimes dumbed down, this does not excluded games to movies this also happens when you try and make a animated film like *Ghost in the shell* to live action or *Avatar the last airbender*.

The indie movie of Papers Please, watch it. Its only 10 minutes long, nailed down the visuals if I'd have to say.

Didn't get chance to see the full film but caught the back half of the sonic live action the other day when it was on TV. Honestly i was kind of surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Not the best but not as bad as I thought it would be. Will have to watch the full thing at some point.
Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

if ya'll like the 2020 sonic movies, try watching the 90s OVA! its so charming to me now, but back when i first watched it it was a whole vibe.
