I am making a silent film and need advice for techniques. The plot is a murder mystery comedy but we might add more later. I just need advice on how to make it as funny as the ones by Charlie Chaplin.

Will you have music? If so, make it really upbeat, but let it go murder-y every once and a while. If you discover the murder or a clue that points to a huge secret, overexaggerate your surprise. Because silent movies have no voice or sound, you need to focus purely on visuals, the only way to do that would be to overexaggerate movements and surprise. Make sure you do little stupid and funny things too, never underestimate something stupid's ability to make you laugh. That's all the advice I have, good luck, I hope I can watch it sometime.
