Is america maybe ruining anime? Just a little bit? Sure it's a nice little twist to make em live action, but like, should it? Should it really be live action?

I'm not gonna lie, but I really hated what they did to the death note remake. I feel like the changed it so much that it barely resembled the manga anymore. I'm a little bitter about american remakes I guess you could say haha

Agreed. I tried watching it and was almost immediately resentful.

Not really. Death Note 2017 was stupid and Neo Yokio was awful, but it's not like the low quality of those is affecting the quality of the stuff coming out of Japan.

I think directors are not yet ready to adapt mangas right now

I mean, I don't see why not. It can be done, it just hasn't bene done right yet. I say if someone has the money and want's to give it a try, give it a try.

Although it wasn't a faithful adaptation, I liked deathnote 2017, and that's more than I could say about most movie adaptations in general

>>4 This. If watching the Death Note movie made you "bitter" or "resentful..." yeah, you've gotta chill.

Edge of Tomorrow's a thing. Pretty good flick, based off a light novel.

I think it can certainly be done right, especially if the right people are working on it. The issue is often time the writers and directors try to film their version of the source material which is why we end up with things like James Wong's DB evolution and Shyamalan's Avatar: TLA, when really, fans just want to see their shows portrayed right, a good example as mentioned above is Death Note.

The original japanese trilogy of movies were pretty damn good IMO, because while they dramatized a couple things and made some changes, they stuck pretty faithful to the material, The 2017 English Death Note however went as far to change not only the main object of the series(the Death Note itself and its rules), it also changed back stories and character personality traits, re imagined pretty much.

However, it can be done, take Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, while it isn't exactly anime, it is heavily influenced by anime and gaming culture in general, and the movie was done great, even if the ending is a tad different than originally intended, or if you want a more subtle example take Kill Bill, with anime-like reactions and battle sequences everywhere. It can be done, just need the right people for the job.
