With a remake on the horizon and people posting threads about some of their favorite movies, I figured I would post one about my favorite movie of all time.

Set in the time of Jesus Christ, the plot centers around a Jewish prince named Judah Ben-Hur. His childhood best friend, Messala, is an ambitious Roman Centurion who sees an opportunity to rise in the ranks by arresting Ben-Hur and his family after shingles fall off the family house and onto the Roman governor of Judea. Ben-Hur's mother and sister are sent to prison, while Ben-Hur himself is sent to live in slavery. Years later, he returns to exact his revenge on Messala.

What follows is the film's iconic chariot race, which lasts for nine minutes, and supposedly shows the death of a stuntman on camera.

As if the first two acts weren't absolute perfection, it's the third act that elevates this film to greatness. Without giving too much away, it adds an extra dimension to Ben-Hur's character as well as the classic revenge plot by telling a faith-based story the way it should be told. It doesn't hammer in the message, but it doesn't shy away from one either.

The film was a gigantic hit, grossing ten times its $15 million budget. It also went on to win eleven Oscars, including Best Picture, a record that has been matched only by Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

If you've seen this movie, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. If you haven't, you should definitely check it out.
