Submarine is a 2010 coming-of-age comedy-drama film based on the novel of the same name by Joe Dunthorne.
The story is basically about a boy, Oliver Tate, who is infatuated by a girl, Jordana Bevan. They start dating and throughout the film we see their interaction with each other and problems both teens--but especially Oliver since he's the protagonist--must face. And like any coming-of-age film, there is always self-realization.

I'm not too fond of coming-of-age movies, but I still watch them for whatever odd reason. The reason I don't like them much is because they're almost always replicas of each other and not in the sense of plot, but there's always factors in them that are the same. However, this movie is not like others in the same genre. In most of these films, you'll see the main character can relate to the majority of teens, but Oliver is extremely weird/awkward and there's not much to relate to (in my opinion, I don't think a lot of teens are like him, at least the one's I know) except the problems he faces. That's why it can still reach to a broad spectrum of people, because although he's not very relatable, the problems he faces are and that's what draws you in.
In all honesty, it was very dull. I did not care much for the characters except Oliver, and even he was not that great to me. It went too slow perhaps? I felt like the whole movie was really slow, like everyone was talking slow. I don't know why, but I did. Other than that, I thought the filming of the movie was excellent. There are a lot of perfect scenes captured and I appreciated the artistic aspect of it, more than the acting. Overall, I'd say this film is about a 6.5/10.
