Donnie Darko is a 2001 science fiction drama film.

The movie is basically about Donnie, our main character, trying to figure out what is going to happen to him in 28 days. Throughout this time period he sees recurring visions of his imaginary friend Frank, he gets into some trouble, he gets interested in time travel, and he thinks about life/death/other significant points that people think about (you understand).

Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie Darko (until halfway into the movie I figured out that he was Jake Gyllenhaal. I knew the face was familiar, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together.)
Jena Malone as Gretchen Ross (lol, does she not look like Kristen Stewart?!)
Drew Barrymore (haha, I was like, where's the E.T. girl??? (GUYS HOW IS THERE NO E.T. THREAD?!))
ok there's various famous people in this film, but I don't even want to list them all, so...yeah

Ok. I enjoyed this film. I'd definitely watch it again, but I was left dissatisfied especially with the ending, but I'll get to that later.

Look, it's great. It makes you question things and movies that make you question things are cool in my opinion. I was like, "WOW THIS IS SO PROFOUND!" and not in the sarcastic way, because I usually use the word 'profound' very sarcastically to show that someone's trying to hard. I'm watching this movie, really immersed in it and I don't have an appreciation for the characters, but I do appreciate their acting. It's realistic even if this is a sci-fi film.

But the ending. I hated the ending. So very bad. It didn't make sense. Did any of the movie even occur or was that just fake? I don't get it at all. It confused me and either I'm missing something or there was really no point to this movie. So the moment I realized that, I was like, "Wow, this movie was really pointless." It didn't make me question life at all. I just thought it had at first, and I think people do that. They see a highly-acclaimed movie that's supposed to evoke a certain emotion and they already have it set in their minds that they'll feel that way about it. That's pretty much what I did and then I got to the ending.

The way it was put together was good, I mean there's never a point in the movie where you feel a scene is out of place. Perfect fit for each scene and perfectly done until the end. I loved the way it was filmed, too, so I guess I can appreciate the artistic value of it.

I don't really know what to say. I watched this movie expecting to get something out of it and I didn't get anything out of it except bullshit. =( I would watch it again, but it's not something that I would say is super amazing like many people think it is. I would say this movie is for people who like to think that they know pretty much everything about everything, people who are more capable than the rest of us to find these "deeper meanings," but in all honesty, I see no deeper meaning.

Here is the trailer

I would LOVE to hear what others have to say about this movie. Perhaps, I can see from your perspective.
