The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) is a 1920 German horror silent film. The film is about an insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist (basically a sleep walker) to commit murders. There is not much to say about the story itself when that is really all of the basic plot. The movie is more of an art form as were most silent films at the time. Since there are no words except the occasional frames with dialogue in them, you can imagine that the acting was very passionate and had to speak for itself.
It's a horror film, yes, it is actually scary. It's not your "something popped out of the closet" kind of scary. It's a psychological kind of scary towards the end and a suspenseful scary in the beginning.
If you notice in silent films when the frames are edited you can see where somethings are cut out. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you understand what I mean then you'll know what I'm talking about. If you do get what I'm saying, then you'll know that the way the frames are edited (most likely NOT on purpose) adds to the creepiness.

I'd like to say that I wasn't going to watch the whole thing, because I thought it was going to be boring, but it was great. 4/5
